The fall box office season is officially underway. The summer was defined by massive blockbusters like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, as well as notable flops like Supergirl and Masters of the Universe. There aren’t quite as many big budget franchise films coming out before the holiday window, but there are a few highly-anticipated flicks that could make waves. Practical Magic 2 hit theaters on September 11, roughly 28 years after the original came out. So how much business did the legacy sequel to the cult classic reel in over its first three days on the big screen?

Practical Magic 2 made an estimated $30.0 million at the box office between September 11 and September 13. The original Practical Magic opened to $13.1 million when it came out in October 1998. Adjusted for inflation, that equates to $31.5 million in 2026 dollars. The sequel fell just short of the $30.5 million that The Lost City opened to in 2022, making it Sandra Bullock’s second-biggest start since Ocean’s Eight hit $41.6 million upon its debut in 2018. As for Nicole Kidman, Practical Magic 2 slots in as her fifth-best live-action opening weekend domestically behind only 2018’s Aquaman, 1995’s Batman Forever, 2011’s Just Go With It and 2002’s Panic Room.
According to Deadline, Practical Magic 2 made $4.7 in domestic Thursday night previews. That cash is technically counted as part of the film’s $13.1 million Friday gross. It proceeded to make $10.1 million on Saturday and $6.8 million on Sunday. Practical Magic 2 posted the 19th-largest domestic opening weekend of 2026 so far. It joins The Devil Wears Prada 2, Scream 7, Hoppers, Disclosure Day, Moana, Supergirl and Wuthering Heights as one of eight female-led films to open to at least $30 million this year.
Looking beyond the United States and Canada, Practical Magic 2 has reeled in an additional $16.0 overseas. In total, the film has already grossed $46.0 million worldwide. The first movie grossed $94.4 million back in 1998, with a pretty even 50/50 split between the domestic and international hauls. That was on a $75 million budget, a price point that reportedly hasn’t moved for the sequel three decades later.
