Picks, Best Bets for Abdullah Mason vs. Albert Bell

Published:

By: Ryan Wohl

Saturday’s first edition of “The Fight” features many rising stars in the sport of boxing. Abdullah Mason is defending his WBO Lightweight title against Albert Bell in the Main Event, while Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington puts his WBC Featherweight Championship on the line against Rene Palacios in the co-main event. This event begins at 8:00 p.m. ET on DAZN and TNT Sports.

Check out my best bets below for this upcoming boxing card with a full breakdown.

Best Bets for Abdullah Mason vs. Albert Bell

  • Abdullah Mason by KO/TKO/DQ (-110): Mason should be able to wear down Albert Bell in this contest, as he wasn’t previously preparing for a fight of this caliber.
  • Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington by KO/TKO/DQ (-175): Recently, we have seen a much more aggressive version of Bruce Carrington, as five of his previous eight victories have come by knockout. I believe he’ll continue to be aggressive, as this is the beginning of his WBC Featherweight title reign.
  • Delante ‘Tiger’ Johnson by KO/TKO/DQ (+200): With the addition of BoMac, I expect to see Johnson continue his dominant run in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

Abdullah Mason vs. Albert Bell Best Bets Breakdown

Abdullah Mason by KO/TKO/DQ (-110)

At 22, Abdullah Mason is one of the most promising young boxing stars in recent memory. His combination of speed and power is on a different level from his current opposition. Now, he is defending his title against veteran Albert Bell, who is 11 years older and is also undefeated with a 28-0 record. Mason’s original opponent, Joe Cordina, was unable to obtain a visa, so Bell stepped in as a late replacement.

On DraftKings Sportsbook, Mason is a -500 favorite with Bell being a +380 underdog. Bell is skilled in his own right, but he hasn’t faced someone with Mason’s skill set. Although Bell took this fight on short notice, he was still preparing for a different opponent, so he is in shape. But only a week to prepare for a fighter like Mason will not be enough. Mason’s power separates him from Bell in this contest. Although Mason’s last win came by decision, it was his first win on the judges’ scorecards in May 2023. Nine of Mason’s previous 10 victories have come by knockout.

Bruce Carrington by KO/TKO/DQ (-175)

Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington is coming off a big ninth-round knockout victory over Carlos Castro at Madison Square Garden. Now Carrington is back to make his first defense of the WBC Featherweight title against Rene Palacios. Palacios is 19-0-1 with 10 knockouts and is coming off a win against Sulaiman Segawa in January.

Although only 10 of Carrington’s 17 victories have come by knockout, he has scored a finish in two of his last three contests. Also, five of Carrington’s previous eight wins have come by knockout. When “Shu Shu” is aggressive and confident, he has shown how much knockout power he possesses. Since Carrington is a massive -1400 favorite, I’m taking him to win by KO/TKO/DQ at -175.

Delante Johnson by Decision or Technical Decision (-135)

Another rising star on this card with a 17-0 record is Delante “Tiger” Johnson. He faces fellow undefeated Welterweight contender, Christopher Guerrero, who enters this fight 16-0 with nine knockouts. BoxRec has Johnson No. 14 and Guerrero No. 20 in their Welterweight division rankings.

Even though on paper these fighters seem on an even level, Johnson is still a -600 favorite with Guerrero as a +400 underdog on DraftKings Sportsbook. Johnson has won two of his previous three fights by knockout, and although Guerrero is undefeated, he hasn’t faced this level of competition before. Guerrero’s last two opponents have five and nine losses. Like Mason, Johnson is from Cleveland, which should give them an extra spark of excitement for this event.
