Big Game, Big Stars: A Preview of Super Bowl 60’s Ads

The Big Game brings out the big ads. For years, one of the highlights of the Super Bowl for a large segment of the audience hasn’t been the action on the gridiron, but the pitches playing out on their televisions. And based on early looks, Super Bowl 60 is shaping up to be no different.

From stars leaning into exaggerated, cartoonish versions of themselves to brands fully embracing nostalgia, this year’s ads are focused on one thing above all else: having fun and making audiences laugh.

Here are some of the ads looking to score during the Super Bowl.

“Golden Cringe” & “No One Can See This”

  • Brand: Dunkin’

The DunKing himself, Ben Affleck is back with another Super Bowl brand for his beloved Boston brand, Dunkin’. This time he is enlisting sitcom legends Matt Le Blanc, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Alexander. In “Golden Cringe” we see Affleck with a mysterious Dunkan tape he want to pitch to the trio, noting that what’s old is new, what’s cringe is good and he’s got something from the pinnacle of all their careers. In the followup teaser, we see the aftermath of Affleck showing the trio a video tape labelled, “Network pilot 95 v3,” with Aniston and Alexander aghast. Will this go better than Affleck’s attempt at music a few years back? We’ll find out on Super Sunday.

“Jurassic Park… Works”

  • Brand: Xfinity

People love “What If” stories. And Xfinity is looking to tap into that with its Big Game commercial. Xfinity, under the same corporate umbrella as NBC and Universal Studios, ponders what would have happened if the fictional Jurassic Park … worked. Of course, it worked thanks to Xfinity internet service (this is an ad, overall), but bringing back original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum and letting them have a lovely weekend is pure nostalgic fun. From John Williams’ iconic surging score to plenty of winks and nods — salt scrubs making them feel 33 years younger, WiFi finding a way — this version of Jurassic Park and this commercial seem sure to be a big touchdown.

“The Choice”

  • Brand: Pepsi

Pepsi is doing a lot in its Big Game ad, directed by Academy Award–winner Taika Waititi (who also cameos). It is playing off it’s classic Pepsi Challenge, Coca-Cola’s iconic polar bears, the viral couple (or non-couple, I’m still not sure) caught on the kiss cam at the Coldplay concert in 2025 and perhaps even Back to the Future with it’s allusion to something being “heavy” (let’s not forget Pepsi got product placement in Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II). After getting over it’s inital shock, the polar bear eventually comes to terms with its brand disloyalty to the sounds of “I Want To Be Free” and embraces its thirst for a different type of cola.

“Pringleleo”

  • Brand: Pringles

Tired of boys and wanting a man, Sabrina Carpenter has a eureka moment — why not make one of her own with this conveniently available can of Pringles potato chips? What follows is a sweet, and literally salty, whirlwind romance which sees the new couple going on a long drive, playing footsie under the table at dinner, flying kites and sharing a smooch on the ever present kiss cam. Ultimately, the romance is not meant to be as everyone, including Sabrina herself, can’t help but eat up her man. It truly was love at first bite.

“Ritz Island”

  • Brand: Ritz Crackers

Speaking of salty, that fits Bowen Yang and Jon Hamm to a tee in this entry from Ritz crackers. The duo lament the latest party on Ritz Island, noting that they hate mingling (they are salty, after all). Yang agrees to go so long as his feet don’t have to touch the sand, which is the cue for Scarlett Johansson to arrive on her jet ski and whisk her husband’s former SNL colleague and Hamm off to the bash. Even if Yang has to tone it down a notch (or 10).

So it’s clear that this year’s advertisers have pulled out all the stops — from celebrity cameos and nostalgic reunions to laugh-out-loud concepts and culturally tuned moments. Super Bowl 60 isn’t just a game for brands — it’s one of the biggest creative stages of the year.
