When was the last time the Chiefs were home underdogs?

The Kansas City Chiefs will find themselves in an unfamiliar position this Sunday when they take on the Phildelphia Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LIX. They will be an underdog at home.

That’s right for the first time since Week 6 of the 2022 season, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and company will be an underdog at Arrowhead Stadium.

Going into Sunday’s Super Bowl rematch, the Chiefs are currently 1.5-point underdogs on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Eagles are also currently -125 favorites on the moneyline. And according to our Betting Splits page, bettors appear to be leaning toward the defending champs in this one.

Some stats to keep in mind heading into this Super Bowl rematch, courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook:

  • The Chiefs have covered the spread in four of their last five games against reigning Super Bowl champions.
  • The Chiefs have won each of their last 12 games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
  • Four of the last five games between the Eagles and Chiefs have gone OVER the total points line.

Looking back at that Week 6 2022 matchup where the Chiefs were home underdogs against the Bills, Patrick Mahomes went from 25 for 40 with 338 passing yards and two touchdowns. However, he also threw two interceptions and was outgunned by Josh Allen, who went 27 for 40 for 329 yards and three touchdowns.

It should be noted heading into this matchup that the Chiefs star wideout Xavier Worthy injured his shoulder in KC’s season-opening loss to the Chargers in Brazil. My colleague Keagan Smith examined the fantasy value of Hollywood Brown in light of Worthy’s injury, noting:

Brown doesn’t look like the most exciting play in fantasy football, but we’ve seen him produce in the past with double-digit fantasy points in each of his first four seasons with the Ravens and Cardinals. That also includes a 2021 campaign in which the wideout averaged 14.1 FPPG as one of the two primary targets in Baltimore’s offense alongside tight end Mark Andrews, so perhaps there’s a chance he could recapture that dynamic alongside Kelce for the time being in Kansas City.

The Eagles and Chiefs kickoff from Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET and the game will air on Fox. The Eagles head into Week 2 with the third-best odds on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the Super Bowl at +750, while the Chiefs sit at +1200.
