Wednesday offers up plenty of MLB action for baseball fans. The 15-game slate gets started early today, with four different matchups in the afternoon window. Later, the Blue Jays take on the Guardians in a battle between American League playoff contenders. This evening, the Phillies and Astros battle again following Tuesday’s 1-0 Houston victory.

Yusei Kikuchi more than 6.5 strikeouts thrown
Don’t look now, but the Angels are hovering near .500 at 39-40. Key to Los Angeles’ recent push has been its starting pitching, including offseason acquisition Yusei Kikuchi. The former All-Star has recorded a 3.01 ERA and 87 strikeouts over 89.2 innings of work in 2025. Kikuchi has been especially good as of late, allowing three earned runs combined over his last three outings. That includes seven shutout innings against a potent Astros offense last week.
The Halos will hope to earn a sweep this afternoon against the suddenly struggling Red Sox. Boston sent shockwaves across baseball with its decision to trade third baseman Rafael Devers. In the slugger’s absence, his old team has dropped five of their last eight games. The Red Sox have a propensity for swinging early and often, and that’s something a crafty arm such as Kikuchi can exploit. Boston has notched the fourth-most strikeouts against left-handed pitchers this season (207). Look for LA’s newest ace to rack up some K’s on Wednesday.
Gleyber Torres more than 0.5 hits
On a Tigers team filled with feel-good stories, Gleyber Torres deserves a mention. The second baseman became a frequent target of ire from Yankees fans, due in part to inconsistent hitting and defensive lapses. Through three months in Detroit, the two-time All-Star looks like his old self again. Torres is slashing .278/.386/.418 at the plate with seven home runs and 38 RBIs.
Those stats might not be eye-popping, but that offensive production has been crucial for the American League-leading Tigers. There should be ample opportunity for Detroit’s batters to make an impact tonight against the Athletics. Unproven arm Jacob Lopez will be taking the mound for the tenth time this season. Despite some solid numbers (4.25 ERA), the 27-year-old can be beat. Right-handed batters are hitting .269 against the third-year pro thus far. Following a two-hit performance last night, Torres should be licking his chops ahead of tonight’s contest.
Cal Raleigh more than 1.5 total bases
While Aaron Judge remains the runaway favorite to win American League MVP, Cal Raleigh has put together a remarkable campaign. The slugger has already made history; his 32 first-half homers are the most ever by a catcher. That’s not to say Big Dumper is an all-or-nothing hitter. The 28-year-old has a .278 batting average, .383 on-base percentage, 68 RBIs and nine steals. Such well-rounded offensive production has made Raleigh one of the most intimidating at-bats in baseball.
The Mariners will have their hands full on offense tonight against Twins starter Joe Ryan. With that being said, a few names in Seattle’s lineup have found success in this spot before. That includes Raleigh, who has gotten three hits over seven career at-bats against the right-hander (.429 batting average). It helps that the backstop enters Wednesday on a six-game hitting streak. Another extra-base hit from Raleigh is likelier than not at this point, even against an arm such as Ryan.
Drew Rasmussen more than 16.5 outs
The red-hot Rays are one of the AL’s most well-rounded rosters. While there aren’t any overwhelming strengths on this squad, there aren’t any glaring weaknesses, either. Still, Tampa Bay has historically made its mark on the mound, churning out an assembly line of pitching talent. That’s been no different this season, thanks in part to starters such as Drew Rasmussen. The oft-injured righty is finally healthy, and stellar results have followed as a result. Over 79.1 innings, the 29-year-old owns a 2.61 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.
The biggest knock, if there is any, on Rasmussen is a lack of swing-and-miss ability (67 SO). There probably won’t be many whiffs tonight against a Royals team striking out at the sport’s second-lowest rate. However, Kansas City is also scoring the second-fewest runs per game in baseball (3.33). That level of hitting inefficiency, combined with a penchant for avoiding long at-bats, works in Rasmussen’s favor. The veteran is crafty enough to induce weak contact from a KC lineup that struggles against almost everyone. Keeping that in mind, expect a lengthy outing from Tampa Bay’s underrated hurler in this one.
Mookie Betts more than 0.5 runs batted in
It’s difficult to nitpick when it comes to the Dodgers this season. The defending champs remain the odds-on favorites to win another title, currently leading the loaded NL West division. Still, if there’s one name that hasn’t looked right in Los Angeles, it’s Mookie Betts. The former MVP is hitting just .254 at the plate, in addition to nine home runs and 38 RBIs. Those numbers aren’t awful, but it’s not the level of production fantasy managers expect from the superstar.
With that being said, Betts’ spot in a loaded Dodgers lineup affords him ample opportunities to produce. The former All-Star has tallied an RBI in two of his previous three games. That’s a great sign going into this week’s series against the Rockies. Last night, LA managed to score nine runs without Mookie in the lineup. On Wednesday, he’ll get to face struggling rookie Chase Dollander (6.19 ERA). The young starter’s numbers are far worse when pitching at home in Coors Field (9.58 ERA). Hitting behind Shohei Ohtani, Betts will see plenty of pitches to hit tonight.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto less than 2.5 runs allowed
Let’s stay in Denver, where the Dodgers will attempt to silence Colorado with staff ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. After a blistering-hot start, the Japanese hurler has hit a bit of a speed bump recently. During his last two starts, the righty has coughed up eight earned runs (6.55 ERA). Still, that small sample size doesn’t take away from what’s been a breakout campaign. Through 84.2 innings, Yamamoto has notched a 2.76 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 95 strikeouts.
Still, this pick isn’t due just to the abilities of LA’s talented starter. It’s also a result of how bad this Rockies offense has been. Despite playing at baseball’s most hitter-friendly venue, Colorado is averaging the 13th-fewest runs per game at home (4.24). Yamamoto has had success here before, holding the Rox to two runs over five innings last September. An even better performance could be on the horizon tonight.
