All 30 MLB teams are taking the field on Wednesday, with 15 different baseball games on tap. In New York, Jacob deGrom will take the mound as the Rangers attempt to stifle a potent Yankees lineup. Elsewhere, the Red Sox are in position to sweep the Mets with ace Garrett Crochet on the mound. As a nightcap, Corbin Burnes’ Diamondbacks face the Dodgers following a ten-inning loss on Tuesday.

Garrett Crochet less than 4.5 hits allowed
Garrett Crochet has been a savior for an otherwise unimpressive Red Sox pitching staff. Acquired from the White Sox this offseason, Boston’s newest ace has arguably the best stuff in the American League. Through 63.0 innings of work, the All-Star has recorded a 2.00 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 73 strikeouts. The 25-year-old has thrown seven frames in three of his last four outings, allowing a combined six earned runs during that time (2.08 ERA).
Tonight’s pick has just as much to do with Crochet as it does his opponent. The division-leading Mets have hit a rut, struggling mightily at the plate over the past week. Over its last seven contests, New York is slashing .176/.280/.233, scoring a total of ten runs during that time. It’s difficult to envision that changing on Wednesday against one of baseball’s most dominant arms.
Jacob deGrom more than 6.5 strikeouts
Are we in the midst of a deGrom-aissance? Texas’ high-priced starter has been injured for most of his three-year tenure in the Lone Star State. However, 2025 has been a different story. The veteran has already logged his highest workload with the Rangers, tossing 51.0 innings. Through nine starts, he’s accounted for a 2.29 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 53 strikeouts.
With numbers such as those, it’s fair to say deGrom is officially back. In each of the hurler’s last six appearances, he hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs. He’ll be put to the test on Wednesday against an American League-leading Yankees offense. However, the Bombers aren’t without fault. This season, New York has accounted for the fourth-most strikeouts per game in baseball (9.06). A savvy pro such as deGrom should find a way to take advantage of an over-eager lineup tonight.
Jackson Merrill more than 1.5 total bases
On a Padres roster loaded with star power, Jackson Merrill might be the team’s best hitter. Through 21 games, the center fielder has slashed .361/.393/.578 at the plate while slugging four home runs and 17 RBIs. The heart of San Diego’s lineup is almost entirely made up of right-handed batters. That makes Merrill, a southpaw, incredibly valuable. When the 22-year-old plays, pitching to this group becomes a far more difficult task.
Merrill has looked mortal recently, notching a .053 batting average over his last five outings. However, he’ll face an equally struggling pitcher on Wednesday in Toronto’s Kevin Gausman. The former All-Star got off to a great start, but has looked awful as of late. During Gausman’s previous four outings, he’s on the hook for a 6.86 ERA. Merrill could dominate this matchup, as he’s hitting .375 against right-handers this season. One big knock could allow San Diego’s young All-Star to deliver on this total tonight.
Randy Vasquez less than 2.5 earned runs allowed
We’ll stay in Canada, where the Padres are attempting to bounce back from a 3-0 loss on Tuesday. The Friars will hand the ball tonight to Randy Vasquez. The 26-year-old, acquired from the Yankees in the Juan Soto deal, is a difficult arm to figure out. On paper, a 3.45 ERA looks great; the same can’t be said for his 1.49 WHIP and 4.7 K/9 ratio.
Fortunately for San Diego, Vasquez appears to be playing his best over the past two weeks. In all three starts made since May 3rd, the Dominican has pitched at least six innings without allowing more than two runs. The Blue Jays own one of baseball’s worst offenses, scoring the eighth-fewest runs per game (3.87). Right now, I’d rather back the pitcher on a hot streak against this mediocre lineup.
Nick Castellanos more than 0.5 RBIs
The Phillies are stocked to the brim with sluggers, making them a difficult group for most pitchers to deal with. Names such as Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber get most of the acclaim, but don’t sleep on Nick Castellanos. The outfielder has only hit four home runs this season, but he’s still hitting a respectable .281. Tonight, he’ll have the chance to do some damage against baseball’s worst team.
The Rockies, with their 8-40 record, are nothing short of an unmitigated disaster. Tonight, they’ll hand the ball to Carson Palmquist, making his second career start. Last weekend, the righty got shelled for five runs over four innings vs. the Diamondbacks. Against an equally tough Philadelphia offense, it’s difficult to imagine Colorado’s rookie pitcher having much success. Expect a big game from Castellanos and several other Phillies hitters on Wednesday.
Ketel Marte less than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
Ketel Marte was one of the few Diamondbacks hitters to get anything going on Tuesday, reaching base three times. It marked yet another quality performance at the dish for the 31-year-old, one of baseball’s most underrated players. This season, the two-time All-Star is slashing .271/.392/.529 while smashing six homers and ten RBIs.
Arizona’s second baseman will look to continue his recent success tonight against the Dodgers. Los Angeles’ starter, Dustin May, has had a rough season thus far (4.43 ERA). However, he’s held Marte to just one hit over seven career at-bats. In addition, May hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his three previous appearances vs. the Diamondbacks. Keeping that in mind, Marte appears to be a prime fade candidate to close out Wednesday’s MLB slate.
