SP Edward Cabrera, Miami Marlins at Chicago White Sox, $7,300
There’s a ton to despise about Cabrera. He hasn’t pitched more than 5.2 innings in any start this season. He has two games with fewer than 10 FPTS and totaled -4.2 FPTS in one of those. He’s walking a ton of batters and has been prone to the long ball.
But it’s a dualistic world, and there’s plenty to like about Cabrera as well.
The fastball averages 96.6 mph, which has helped to rack up 24 strikeouts in 24.1 innings. He’s been a little unlucky with a .347 BABIP. The 6.29 ERA isn’t backed by the 4.87 FIP. He has three games with double-digit FPTS.
Most importantly, though, he faces the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Chicago is fourth in strikeout rate, dead-last in ISO and 29th in wOBA.
OF Jo Adell, Los Angeles Angels vs. Baltimore Orioles, $2,500
Adell is only slashing .184/.223/.347 in 103 plate appearances. The BABIP is only .212, though he does have four home runs and one stolen base. He’s been much better against right-handed pitching, with all four home runs coming against them.
Kyle Gibson is a righty who has already served up six home runs in 7.2 innings this season. He’s also walked three while giving up a whopping 12 earned runs. Sure, he’s been a little unlucky, but the 13.15 FIP supports the 14.09 ERA. It’s a small sample size, but Gibson has never been a hard throwing strikeout machine.
OF James Outman, Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks, $2,400
Corbin Burnes used to be one of the preeminent pitchers in MLB, but the decline started three seasons ago and has puddled to where we are at now: 7.71 K/9, 4.68 BB/9 and 1.38 HR/9. In his prime, those numbers were 13.27, 1.83 and 0.3.
The ERA is still a respectable 3.58 through 32.2 innings this season, but the BABIP is .261 and the FIP is way up at 5.13.
Outman is only up because of the injury to Teoscar Hernandez, but Hernandez is on the 10-day injured list so Outman will likely be in the lineup. Through nine plate appearances, he has one home run, two runs and three RBI. He put up 22 FPTS two games ago.
