The 2025 MLB season is in full swing, with plenty of high-profile matchups entering week number two. 13 games between 26 different teams are set for Tuesday. Among the contests to watch, a red-hot Yankees offense will host Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes and the Diamondbacks. Later on, Chris Sale and the Braves hope to earn their first win of the season against the Dodgers. Marcus Semien more than 0.5 runs
The Rangers are absolutely loaded on offense, making them a nightmare for opposing pitchers. Texas’ biggest strength is a formidable heart of the lineup, headlined by Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia and Joc Pederson. That places leadoff hitter Marcus Semien in the perfect spot to touch home plate. Last season, the second baseman ranked seventh in the American League with 101 runs scored.
On most nights, Semien is a solid pick to score; that’s especially true on Tuesday. The Rangers will continue their series in Cincinnati’s hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark. Starting for the Reds is Carson Spiers; he recorded a 5.46 ERA over 90.2 innings in 2024. That number ballooned to a 7.15 ERA over the right-hander’s final 16 appearances. Semien, a three-time All-Star, may need to reach base only once to deliver on this total.
Juan Soto more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
It’s been a terrific four-game start to Juan Soto’s tenure with the Mets. The outfielder has hit for a .308 batting average while reaching base in half of his at-bats (.500 OBP). If not for the rest of New York’s lineup struggling, the four-time All-Star would have more than two RBIs. Monday’s ten-run outburst vs. the Marlins bodes well for this offense going forward.
As good as the Mets looked last night, Tuesday presents a much more difficult challenge. Former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara will start for the Marlins. The right-hander allowed two runs over 4.2 innings vs. Pittsburgh last week, his first start in nearly two years. As good as Miami’s ace is, he’s allowed 11 hits in 38 career at-bats vs. Soto. Given his history in this matchup, it’s impossible to fade New York’s superstar tonight.
Corbin Burnes more than 5.5 strikeouts
The Padres and Dodgers have generated most of the early headlines in the NL West. However, don’t forget about the Diamondbacks. After signing Corbin Burnes this winter, Arizona’s rotation can go toe-to-toe with any team in baseball. The 30-year-old was dominant for the Orioles last season, pitching to a 2.92 ERA over 194.1 innings thrown.
Burnes’ level of experience in the AL East should serve him well tonight in the Bronx. The Yankees’ offense decimated Milwaukee over the weekend, scoring 36 runs over three games. Still, historically this group strikes out often, even when things are going well. In 19.0 career innings vs. New York, Burnes has surrendered just three runs while punching out 22 batters. Arizona’s newest ace is well-equipped to navigate this dangerous lineup on Tuesday.
Lars Nootbaar more than 0.5 runs batted in
The vibes aren’t great in St. Louis entering the 2025 MLB season. However, the lineup could be a pleasant surprise. There may not be any superstars, but the Cardinals have quite a few quality hitters. That includes Lars Nootbaar, one of the sport’s more underrated outfielders. Through four games, he’s hitting a blistering .462 to go with two home runs, five runs and five RBIs.
A weak Angels pitching staff held up last night, eking out a 5-4 victory in extra innings. The Halos will now turn to veteran Kyle Hendricks on the mound tonight. St. Louis has plenty of history against the former Cubs starter, having faced him 28 different times. In eight career at-bats vs. Hendricks, Nootbaar has notched three singles. Hitting leadoff for a decent offense, the 27-year-old is a solid pick to drive in a run or two.
Casey Mize more than 4.5 strikeouts
Detroit has emerged as a pitching powerhouse, helping turn names such as Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty into high-caliber arms. Could Casey Mize be the next Tigers ace? The former number one pick has yet to deliver on his sky-high potential over four seasons as a pro. However, injuries have held the 27-year-old back. If healthy, it’s reasonable to expect a solid season from the righty.
Mize was a revelation in spring training, posting a 1.13 ERA and an 18:7 K:BB ratio. He’ll look to carry over that success into Tuesday’s showdown vs. the Mariners. Seattle’s offense is anemic, having led the league with 1,625 strikeouts in 2024. Mize hasn’t been a fireballer throughout his career. However, if his numbers in March are legit, this could be the perfect play for fantasy baseball managers.
Kyle Tucker more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
Juan Soto garnered more attention, but Kyle Tucker may have been the best player to change teams this winter. Set to hit free agency after the 2025 season, the Astros sent the outfielder to Chicago in December. So far, everything has gone according to plan for the Cubs. King Tuck has recorded a .323 batting average, three home runs and a National League-leading ten RBIs.
Numbers such as those are no accident; it’s clear that the 28-year-old is locked in. Following Monday’s 18-3 shellacking of the Athletics, the lefty will look to power the Cubbies to another win tonight. Starter Luis Severino is no pushover, serving as the de-facto ace for the A’s. Still, Sacramento’s Sutter Health Park appears to be a hitter’s paradise. With the way this Chicago offense has looked so far, Tucker should enjoy another productive evening at the plate.
