Five weeks from today, Netflix will broadcast its first Boxing event. It won’t just be any fight; it will be a spectacle. That is because for the first time since June 11, 2005, one of the greatest boxers of all time, “Iron” Mike Tyson, will make his professional boxing return against “The Problem Child” Jake Paul. AT&T Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys home, will host the massive event on Friday, November 15. Over 80,000 fans are expected to be in attendance for the event.
Tyson had two exhibition fights between his original retirement. One was in 2006 against Corey Sanders, and the most recent was against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. This time, Tyson will not face a 50-year-old former Undisputed Champion. He will be up against a young and hungry fighter in Paul. “The Problem Child” is 27 and has significantly impacted boxing during just four years in the sport.
Jake Paul is the favorite at -275, while Mike Tyson is +210 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Paul made his boxing debut only 56 months ago against Youtuber AnEsonGib. This will be Paul’s 12th professional fight, which is impressive in under five years. Paul has taken a methodical approach to his career. Paul gains more experience with each fight and has fought a more formidable opponent. After knocking out a YouTuber and an ex-NBA player, Nate Robinson, Paul fought and brutally finished former MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley. After beating former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, he lost a split decision against Tommy Fury.
Some people thought that loss was a turning point in Paul’s career and could end his chances of impacting and improving in boxing. But that wasn’t the case. After suffering his first loss, Paul returned to win four fights. He most recently knocked out BKFC “King of Violence” champion and former UFC fighter Mike Perry in July.
Whether you believe Paul is a future champion like he says, he is undeniably one of the biggest stars in boxing today. Four of Paul’s seven fights on PPV have had at least 450,000 PPV buys.
Tyson vs. Paul will not air on PPV; instead, it will stream live on Netflix in over 250 million households. This will be one of the most watched fights in history and of the year. The fight was initially scheduled for July, but Tyson was forced to postpone it due to illness. Paul has faced former UFC champions, but now he will have his most experienced opponent, the former Undisputed Heavyweight champion.
