Can you start Dohnte Meyers if either Ja’Marr Chase or Tee Higgins sits vs. the Dolphins?

The Bengals lost to the Jaguars this past Sunday and both Ja’Marr Chase ($8,100) and Tee Higgins ($7,100) walked away banged up. Chase exited the game with a concussion in the first half and Higgins hurt his groin in the fourth quarter. With these two suffering injuries, Dohnte Meyers ($3,500) had a career-best performance, catching 7-of-9 targets for 87 yards vs. the Jaguars (15.2 FPTS).

The Bengals have dropped two in a row and need to get a bounceback win this Sunday vs. the Dolphins, but it is unclear if either Chase or Higgins will be available. Chase remains in concussion protocol and both he and Higgins missed practice Wednesday.

If one of Chase or Higgins is inactive Sunday, will Meyers be a viable fantasy play?

Meyers’ Week 5 Outlook

With both Chase and Higgins missing practice Wednesday, it certainly feels like one of these wideouts will be inactive Sunday vs. the Dolphins. While Higgins logged 79% of the snaps last Sunday vs. the Jaguars, Chase only saw 20% of the snaps before exiting and in this situation, Meyers was thrust into a big role.

The receiver led the Bengals with a 91.4% route rate and his 16.7% target share ranked third for the team. Meyers should see similar usage if one of Chase or Higgins is out this Sunday and if both of these players sit, Meyers’ target share would naturally increase and likely be north of 20%. Plus, this is an excellent matchup. Miami is yielding the fourth-most yards per pass this season (8.1) and Cincinnati’s implied team total is a healthy 24.5 points on DraftKings Sportsbook despite its injuries.

Meyers is an undrafted 26-year-old rookie who competed in the CFL the last few years, but he just proved he is a capable NFL player, posting 15.4 FPTS vs. the Jaguars. If Chase or Higgins sits this weekend, a similar output is absolutely possible for Meyers and his upside would obviously be higher if both receivers were sidelined.

If your fantasy team is thin at receiver, picking up Meyers now and watching Chase and Higgins’ statuses closely is a solid move. For DFS, Meyers is only $3,500 on DraftKings and if the Bengals are shorthanded at receiver, the rookie will be a strong punt play for all formats.
