Dohnte Meyers caught seven passes for 82 yards against Jacksonville in Week 4, and the timing of that breakout could not be more relevant. Ja’Marr Chase is trying to work through the concussion protocol, Tee Higgins has groin and neck injuries, and Andrei Iosivas is on injured reserve. Suddenly a depth receiver in one of the league’s busier passing attacks has a path to real volume. Find out whether you should start or sit Dohnte Meyers in Week 5.
Dohnte Meyers Start or Sit Advice for Week 5
The opportunity is the entire case. Higgins leads Cincinnati with 39 targets and a 25.2% share, carrying 41.5% of the team’s air yards, while Chase adds 28 targets and four red zone looks. If either misses, there is a large amount of work to redistribute in an offense throwing for 277.5 yards per game on 39.2 attempts.
Meyers already saw his role expand last week. He drew nine targets against the Jaguars after seeing seven across the first three games combined, and he did his damage after the catch, with 35 of his 82 yards coming as YAC. On the season, 69 of his 129 receiving yards have come after the catch, which tells you how Cincinnati uses him: short, quick throws that let him create in space.
Joe Burrow’s offense can support a secondary option. The Bengals post a 99.5 team passer rating and generate 38.8 targets per game, well above the league average of 31.3.
The Biggest Fantasy Risk for Dohnte Meyers in Week 5
Miami’s defense is a difficult place to cash in on that opportunity. The Dolphins allow just 22.3 PPR points per game to wide receivers against a league average of 32.0, along with only 110.2 receiving yards and one touchdown across four games. They have faced Las Vegas, San Francisco, Kansas City and Minnesota, a schedule throwing right at league average, so those numbers are an honest read rather than a product of soft opponents.
The shape of the defense is the twist. Receivers are catching 76.5% of their targets against Miami, but they are seeing just 12.8 targets per game, well below the league’s 18.2. Part of that is game flow. Miami’s own offense is scoring 11.5 points per game, so opponents often build a lead and lean on the run. If Cincinnati jumps ahead, the passing volume Meyers needs could dry up in the second half.
Meyers also has no red zone targets this season and only 8.2% of the team’s air yards. Without a role near the end zone or down the field, he needs a high catch total to post a useful line. Miami’s secondary will be without cornerback Reese Taylor, who has been ruled out with a quad injury, but that is a modest boost against a defense this stingy.
Fantasy Outlook for Dohnte Meyers in Week 5
Sit Meyers in Week 5 for now. His Week 4 performance shows he can handle a larger role, and the injuries ahead of him make him worth monitoring, but one productive game against a tough defense is not enough to trust in a fantasy lineup.
The calculus changes if Chase or Higgins are ruled out. In that scenario, Meyers becomes a viable deep-league FLEX with a real path to targets, though Miami’s coverage still caps the ceiling.
