The Lions sit at 2-1 and carry a 3.5-point favorite tag into Carolina, where the Panthers enter at 1-2 with the total set at 50.5. This Sunday’s DraftKings slate runs Captain Mode format, giving one roster spot a 1.5x boost to both salary and scoring while the other five fill out standard UTIL spots, all under a $50,000 cap.

Set your DraftKings fantasy football lineups here: NFL Showdown $1M Sunday Night Showdown [$250K to 1st] (DET @ CAR)

Lions vs. Panthers DraftKings Showdown Captain Picks

Jahmyr Gibbs ($18,000 CP): The Lions have leaned on Gibbs as a three-down back through the first three weeks. He’s opened the season with scores of 27.6, 23.3 and 41.4 fantasy points. This matchup sets up as one of his best of the season. Carolina’s defense isn’t healthy, and it’s bad (26th in points allowed and yards allowed). The Lions do not need to reinvent the wheel on the road. Grind with Gibbs and go home.

Lions vs. Panthers DraftKings Showdown UTIL Plays

Amon-Ra St. Brown ($11,000): Few receivers in the league have been more consistent than St. Brown. Count on consistency in Carolina on Sunday night. The Panthers’ cornerback situation across from him couldn’t line up better. With Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson both unavailable, Carolina is turning to a patchwork secondary. Brown doesn’t need volume spikes to pay off a flex salary. He does damage on nearly every target he sees, and a shorthanded Carolina defensive backfield figures to feed him plenty of those looks.

Jameson Williams ($7,000): Williams brings the explosive-play upside this roster needs in a Showdown format. One or two big plays can swing a lineup’s outcome. Jared Goff has looked comfortable pushing the ball downfield to Williams, and as mentioned above, a Carolina secondary already missing its top two corners is exactly the type of group vertical threats like Williams tend to exploit. At his salary, he only needs one or two chunk plays to return solid value, and this matchup gives him a real chance at exactly that.

Chuba Hubbard ($9,400): Hubbard is almost entirely the Panthers’ offense by necessity at this point. With both Jonathon Brooks and Trevor Etienne out for the season, Hubbard’s only competition for touches is a limited AJ Dillon. Detroit’s run defense is not the type to target, but this is a showdown slate. Accepting tough matchups is a reality. There are no solutions, only trade-offs. Hubbard provides necessary volume from the Carolina side, but the matchup is difficult.

Lions vs. Panthers DraftKings Showdown Fades

Bryce Young ($9,800): Young’s captain price is steep for a quarterback dealing with this much around him. Emerging star receiver Jalen Coker is questionable. The backfield behind Hubbard is down to AJ Dillon after two IR injuries. Young also absorbed a beating last week (pressure on half of his dropbacks against Cleveland). Add in a Lions defense that blitzes often and has generated steady pressure through three weeks. The risk outweighs the reward at this price.

Lions vs. Panthers DraftKings Showdown Strategy and Prediction

Detroit’s offense should have little trouble moving the ball against a Carolina defense missing both starting cornerbacks. The Panthers will need a big night from their running game just to keep this one within the spread.

Final Score: Lions 27, Panthers 16
