Can you believe we’re already onto Week 3 of the NFL season? Thursday Night Football kicks off with a matchup between a struggling Atlanta Falcons squad and a Green Bay Packers group that got a much-needed win last week. There’s been a ton of talk about the state of this Atlanta offense, but there’s a new quarterback under center and pass-catchers like Kyle Pitts could see a return to form in this one.
Here are the best Kyle Pitts prop bets for Falcons vs. Packers on Thursday Night Football in Week 3.
Best Kyle Pitts prop bet for Falcons vs. Packers
It’s been a rough start to the season for Kyle Pitts. Despite coming off a career-best campaign in which he set new highs in receptions and touchdowns, the tight end has hardly been involved through the first two weeks for the Falcons. He has just four targets – one in Week 1 and three in Week 3 – with his lone catch for 15 yards coming in last week’s loss.
The reasoning behind the quiet couple of weeks centers around the Falcons’ quarterback situation. Third-string backup Cooper Rush started both of the first two games and threw just 39 passes with 229 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions, far from the kind of production that can keep an offense afloat. Drake London’s own individual numbers suffered, as did Atlanta’s scoring as the team reached the end zone just once in those two games. It’s no wonder that Pitts hasn’t done much yet.
That may begin to change in Week 3. Michael Penix Jr. has been named the starter as he makes his return from last season’s ACL tear, hopefully providing more stable quarterback play. He has chemistry with Pitts already after the two shared the field plenty over nine starts last year and multiple appearances back in the prior season, so in a perfect world, the signal-caller can get this offense humming again.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Pitts’ player prop bet lines are set at O/U 3.5 receptions and 35.5 yards. The Falcons are also a 5.5-point underdog with the total set at 42.5 combined points.
There’s no better pick for Pitts in this one than the over on 35.5 receiving yards. It’s been a difficult couple of weeks as he started the new campaign, but the quarterback play he and his teammates were dealing with held this entire offense back. Rush wasn’t the type of quarterback to throw into intermediate and deeper areas of the field, which are areas in which Pitts can get open thanks to his long speed. He also saw a target share of just 8.0% over those games, which was more a product of low passing volume rather than his own ability to command the football. Last season, he commanded a 22.2% share and was still at 20.6% through Week 9, which is the final game in which Penix appeared before his injury.
As underdogs in this matchup against the Packers, the Falcons should throw the ball plenty. Penix’s presence opens up the playbook in a way that Rush didn’t under center, and with a more dangerous quarterback, the defense will have to respect the passing game in a way the opposition didn’t during the opening games. Pitts should see better target volume this week than he did with Rush given the connection he showed with Penix in the past, but even if he doesn’t go over his receptions prop, he should still exceed this low line of 35.5 yards even on a couple of grabs after doing so in six of the seven games they played together last year.
Best Bet: Kyle Pitts over 35.5 receiving yards (-113)
