Following a blindside in the fourth episode that sent home Mike White, Survivor 50 returned Wednesday night with the fifth installment of the show’s most anticipated season yet. Including spoilers for who was voted out, let’s break down Survivor 50 Episode 5: Open Wounds.
Survivor 50 Episode 5 Recap
The Old Ozzy
Episode 5 opened with an Ozzy tailspin after being left out of the prior vote, reminiscent of the South Pacific Cochran backstabbing. The Survivor veteran immediately set his sights on revenge against Christian for this betrayal, setting the stage for an awkward remaining stay on the current Vatu beach. While the two made up the following morning, Ozzy indicated in a confessional that he wasn’t going to forget this incident.
At Cila, we continued to see a more strategic, social side of Jonathan as he angled to further his bonds with non-prior Kalo members. If Young can elevate that part of his game and make the merge, he’s going to be extremely dangerous. Finally, Charlie’s one-way (nearing obsessive) beef with Rizo was realized!! The RIZGOD picked up on the bad vibes coming from his “No. 1 ally” and started an operation with the girls to blindside him.
At Kalo, Coach did what Coach does best: utter foolishness, in the best way possible. This time, Joe and Colby earned nicknames as a sign of faith from the Dragonslayer. Coach then pulled in Aubry, strengthening his already-formidable standing in the game.
Two Teams to Tribal
At the immunity challenge, Jeff revealed that only the winners would be safe, with the other two tribes going to tribal council. A clutch performance by Joe (after his slow start put them behind) clinched immunity. That meant another trip to the torches for Christian, Ozzy and company, along with Cila.
Back on the Cila beach, Charlie and Rizo went to work lining up attempts to take the other down. Unfortunately for the youngster, a feigned attempt to pitch Kamilla on his fraudulent bond with Kyle backfired, as it only made her suspicious.
At Cila, Christian went back to Angelina as the main target. As an attempt to establish trust, Ozzy requested Christian’s shot in the dark, leaving the robotics professor perplexed. Ultimately, he decided to give it up, providing Ozzy the option to trust and work with him, or backstab him in what would be the biggest strategic move of his Survivor career.
First up, Vatu returned to tribal council, a familiar sight. Ozzy made his choice and Angelina was eliminated, becoming the fifth person voted off and sixth person sent home on Survivor 50.
Next up, Cila took the stage, setting up the Charlie vs. Rizo showdown. In the end, Rizo prevailed, and Charlie Davis became the sixth person voted off and seventh person sent home on Survivor 50.
