More than 50 years later, history is still being made at Studio 8H.
Comedian, actor, and influencer Druski hosts Saturday Night Live on November 7, with musical guest The Strokes.
Druski, whose real name is Drew Desbordes, will become the first digital creator to headline SNL, a massive breakthrough for a show that typically reserves its top spot for mainstream actors, musicians, stand-up comedians, and athletes. The move feels like an acknowledgment of the modern entertainment industry — a decision that’s not only welcome but long overdue.
It may be a first for the US show, but not for the franchise: SNL UK had Chicken Shop Date’s Amelia Dimoldenberg host across the pond on September 26.
Druski, 32, rose to prominence through viral social media sketches, amassing 13+ million followers on Instagram and TikTok and 6+ million subscribers on YouTube. Earlier this year, he became the youngest host in BET Awards history. He hosts SNL shortly after inking a multi-year partnership with Netflix, anchored by the December 1 premiere of his new semi-scripted comedy series, Collect & Praise.
The Strokes aren’t strangers to Studio 8H, returning as SNL musical guests for a fifth time. The iconic rock band, fronted by Julian Casablancas, will make its first appearance since Halloween 2020, following the release of their seventh studio album, Reality Awaits.
