Survivor has stood the test of time, churning out an incredible 50 seasons since 2000. As one would expect, the show has developed a cult following, with never-ending debates ensuing about how the best players stack up against each other over the years. It’s time to answer that question. Let’s rank the top 10 Survivor players of all-time, with a few honorable mentions.

#10: Tom Westman
Bryan Armetta: One of the most dominant winners of all time, Tom absolutely controlled Survivor: Palau. As the leader of Koror, his tribe won seven consecutive immunity challenges during the premerge. Still, a terrific social game meant Westman was never really at risk of going home, even as the numbers began to dwindle. To cap things off, Tom managed to eke out close ally Ian in an epic Final Three immunity challenge, essentially handing him $1 million dollars. Even Westman’s early Heroes vs. Villains boot was impressive, as he managed to blindside none other than Cirie with his immunity idol. A challenge beast, social threat, and savvy strategic mind? This is easily one of the best players in Survivor history.
#9: Jeremy Collins
Jeff Pratt: Jeremy entered San Juan del Sur already looking like a seasoned vet. He took that experience and turned it into one of the most complete games in the show’s history, dominating his way to a Survivor: Second Chance win. Jeremy is one of the craftiest players we’ve ever seen, seemingly able to take himself out of the game and evaluate from the audience’s perspective. One could argue he spent most of Second Chance observing after forming tight relationships that allowed his allies to report to his trusty hammock with little bits of information. When Jeremy ultimately made final tribal, he cashed in on the ultimate lottery ticket: an impassioned, teary speech declaring that his wife, Val, had told him they were having a baby boy, and he had to hold it all inside out of fear of being voted off if the information came out. The best part about Jeremy is that his game was purely authentic. He did everything for his family, and he was rewarded for it. Collins will be remembered as arguably the most likable player in Survivor history.
#8: Yul Kwon
Bryan Armetta: The winner of Survivor: Cook Islands, Yul’s game was ahead of its time. Granted, an overpowered immunity idol certainly helped. However, he managed to use it as a weapon, politely blackmailing other players with a smile on his face. In that regard, Kwon showed an advanced understanding of the game that many of his peers lacked. Instead of demonizing those on the bottom of the social ladder, Yul viewed them as potential votes in the jury. His flip of Jonathan Penner was essentially a game-winning move, something nobody else on his cast thought of pursuing. Was there some luck with the idol? Sure, but Yul set the tone for future players in terms of jury management and leveraging advantages. Those are arguably the two most important skills for modern Survivor players.
#7: Kim Spradlin
Blake Krass: Kim Spradlin’s performance on One World is arguably the best single-season performance the show has ever seen. While she didn’t play against the stiffest competition, Spradlin basically ran the game from start to finish. She is in control the whole way, making an important alliance at the tribe swap and cutting out players when necessary. Despite being so dominant in her social game, her physical game was just as impressive. Spradlin won four of the final five individual immunity challenges en route to her victory. She was so good, she didn’t even need to use her hidden immunity idol that she had found. Despite only finishing in ninth place in Winners at War, Spradlin deserves credit for going down trying to take out Tony Vlachos, the eventual winner.
#6: Sandra Diaz-Twine
Bryan Armetta: Opinions on Sandra can vary, to say the least. Her ‘anyone but me’ strategy is smart to some, lazy gameplay to others. At the end of the day, Survivor is about outlasting the rest without making (too many) enemies. In that regard, few have done it better than this two-time winner. In both of her outings, Diaz-Twine displayed an impressive amount of social awareness and flexibility. Often viewed as just an extra number, lesser players slept on her at their own risk. By attaching herself to less liked contestants, Sandra positioned herself for success in the late game. To boot, coming out on top in Heroes vs. Villains, a cut-throat season, is quite the feat. At a certain point, going all the way twice has to count for something. Sandra’s gameplay, while under the radar, shouldn’t be dismissed.
#5: “Boston” Rob Mariano
Blake Krass: Whether or not he is the best player to ever compete on Survivor is up for debate. However, it’s hard to argue that “Boston” Rob Mariano isn’t the biggest star that the show has produced. He has competed on Survivor five times, on The Amazing Race twice and, most recently, on The Traitors. Rob is a Survivor winner from Redemption Island, his fourth time on the show. Some argue that the biggest knock on Boston Rob is that it took him four tries to win the show. However, Rob’s performance on the original Survivor: All-Stars season was incredible. He dominated the entire game, made it to the final two with Amber Brkich and then got engaged to her at the reunion. Even though the million dollar check wasn’t in his name, he kept it in the family. When you think of Survivor, you think of Boston Rob. He belongs on any top ten player list because of his ability to win challenges, cut throats when necessary and still have people like him enough to keep him around.
#4: Sarah Lacina
Jeff Pratt: Sarah may be the player least discussed in the consensus Survivor Mount Rushmore, but she’s absolutely deserving of that honor. She witnessed Tony Vlachos operate first-hand in Cagayan, seeing her torch snuffed at the hands of the future two-time winner. Sarah then came back and played with Tony two more times, outperforming him on both occasions. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, Tony ultimately won Winners at War. However, if it wasn’t for the toss-up in fire making that resulted in him advancing and her being elimiated, Sarah would have won it all and likely emerged as the undisputed GOAT. Lacina played a flat-out better game than her fellow police officer in Season 40. Alas, that’s not how it played out, but Sarah’s performance in Game Changers still cements her as one of the best Survivor players of all time. Her game completely evolved from the person we saw in Cagayan, adopting Tony’s Godfather mentality and strategy, while simultaneously forming strong relationships that secured her the win at the end. She’s one of the show’s fiercest competitors and sharpest minds.
#3: Cirie Fields
Bryan Armetta: The best to never win, and a perfect example of just how difficult it is to go the distance in Survivor. A terrific strategist, Cirie played a major role in shifting the show’s focus from physical dominance to outwitting your opponents. In three of her four outings, Cirie has been the center of attention, taking out inexperienced and savvy players alike. Exercising that kind of control without any kind of challenge prowess is impressive, to say the least. How many other non-winners can say they made it to the Final 3, 4 and 6 on three different appearances? Any of those finishes once, let alone three times, is nothing short of remarkable. Can Fields finally take home the crown in Survivor 50? We’ll see…
#2: Tony Vlachos
Blake Krass: Tony Vlachos gets credited for “reviving” Survivor when it needed a jolt of new life. The show went through a slow stretch of seasons where is struggling to produce any new iconic characters. That is until Survivor: Cagayan. Many people consider Cagayan to be one of the best seasons that the show has ever had, and Vlachos is a big reason for that. Vlachos played one of the best social games that Surivor has ever seen. His supposed allegiance to Woo Hwang convinced Hwang to bring Vlachos to the final, despite it being almost a guaranteed win for Hwang if he had brought Kass McQuillen instead. It was one of the best single-season performances ever, but Vlachos becoming a two-time winner on Winners at War guaranteed him a spot on the Survivor Mount Rushmore.
#1: Parvati Shallow
Jeff Pratt: Parvati ranked No. 1 on all three of our Survivor experts’ lists. The only thing that has held her back from emerging as the undisputed GOAT is the fact that she wasn’t a multi-time winner, and now haters can’t even use that as an argument! Yes, one of Parvati’s wins came on Australian Survivor, but one can argue that winning in Australia is actually significantly harder than winning on the original series in the current era. Also, everyone knows Parvati would have won Heroes vs. Villians if not for a ridiculously bitter jury. Shallow controlled arguably the game’s greatest season as the puppet master behind chaos creator Russell Hantz.
Parvati embodies the true spirit of Survivor. She has the best social game in the show’s history, forming the Black Widow Brigade in Micronesia that allowed her to cruise to the final tribal en route to completing the single most dominant season of all-time. She’s always five steps ahead mentally, masterminding blindside after blindside, and she’s a bonafide challenge beast. At the end of the day, no one has understood Survivor or bent it to their will like Parvati, and no other player ever will.
