Cue the memes of “We got ___ before Grand Theft Auto VI.”
News broke Friday morning that Grand Theft Auto 6 would experience yet another delay. Rockstar Games released the following statement:
Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026.
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to think you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game.
With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

Grand Theft Auto VI was originally set to be released in Fall 2025
Rockstar Games released the first trailer for GTA 6 in December 2023. As expected, the trailer attracted heavy viewership and, as of May 2, 2025, has over 251 million views. The trailer concluded with a vague release date of “Coming in 2025.” Eager fans will have to wait over a year before the game is released on consoles. The trailer showcased incredible graphics, wild scenarios, and a glimpse of the game’s setting.
