What wrong for the Warriors and what does the future hold?

The Golden State Warriors fell to the Sacramento Kings, 118-94, on Tuesday night, eliminating them from the Play-In Tournament and perhaps bringing the team’s golden era to an end.

Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. reflected on what went wrong for Golden State and what the Warriors may have to do moving forward.

GoJo says it’s going to get real interesting this offseason to see whose end of career journey the Dubs value most, with Klay Thompson about the enter free agency coming off a zero-point performance in the Play-In loss to the Kings. GoJo says the way the Warriors lost to a Kings team missing a couple of pieces was eye-opening to say the least. So the question becomes: Do you keep this core together? Steve Kerr had some thoughts on the subject.

Senior points out that it’s nice to say you want everyone back, but it’s easier to spend the cash and end up in the luxury tax when you’re winning trophies. That’s not where this group is right now. He says it comes down to what Klay wants. Senior doesn’t think Klay is going to be back with Golden State unless he’s willing to take an incredibly team-friendly deal. If he’s looking to maximize his dollar, however, Senior doesn’t think it will be with Golden State.

GoJo isn’t even sure how much Golden State would push to bring Klay back. He says their focus is going to be finding ways to maximize the remainder of Steph Curry’s legendary career.

GoJo says he knows people have questioned Steve Kerr, including Bully Ball’s Demarcus Cousins. But the man can coach ball and his comments on the podium post-game show he has a really good handle on the interpersonal stuff with the Warriors. He said Kerr said all the right things for Klay at the podium, knowing Klay had done a lot for the franchise and Kerr personally, but the business is going to business at the end of the day.

So with all that being said, what has gone wrong in the twilight of this golden era of Warriors basketball?
