Portugal and France face off in a rematch of the 2016 Euro final which saw the Portuguese side upset the hosts in extra time. The two sides meet again in Euro 2024 in the quarterfinal round trending in different directions. Portugal needed penalty kicks to take out Slovenia, with goalkeeper Diogo Costa stopping all three Slovenian kicks. Cristiano Ronaldo had a chance to give his side the lead but he missed a penalty kick in extra time.

Here’s what you need to know for the match, with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

These sides were in the same group at Euro 2021, with the group stage match ending in a 2-2 draw. Portugal and France both lost in the round of 16 in that tournament, which was a big disappointment coming off the Euro 2016 final. Both have already made progress from that point but are thinking about much bigger things than just a quarterfinal appearance.

Portugal are fully intact and Ronaldo is expected to draw the start once again. Adrien Rabiot will miss this clash for France due to a suspension but Didier Deschamps’ squad has plenty of depth to replace him.

Ronaldo has yet to score at Euro 2024 and that does give me some pause when picking against him and Portugal in this game. I believe France has been the better team across the board throughout the competition, so I’ll pick Deschamps’ side in regular time in this one.
