The 2024 NBA Draft will tip off with the first round taking place on Wednesday, June 26 and the second round concluding on Thursday, June 27.
Pittsburgh guard Bub Carrington is projected to be selected in the first round and could potentially be a lottery pick depending on how the dominos fall on Wednesday. Turning 19 next month, he is the second youngest prospect in this draft class and the franchise that lands him will have plenty of time to mold and develop him within their system.

Carrington was a four-star high school prospect out of Baltimore and ended up signing with Pitt as part of their 2023 recruiting class. A cousin of Rudy Gay, he made an immediate impact for the Panthers right out the gate, putting up 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in the season opener against North Carolina A&T to become the first player in program history to debut with a triple-double. He ultimately ended up averaging 13.8 points on 41.2% shooting with 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game to earn ACC Rookie of the Year honors.
Strengths
Draft experts have described Carrington as a floor general who is excellent off the dribble and can create scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor lauded his skills as a midrange shooter as well as his ball handling abilities. He has good length for a point guard at 6-4 with a 6-8 wingspan, attributes that can help him on both ends of the floor. At just 18 years old, there is plenty of room for growth between now and the end of his rookie contract.
Weaknesses
Carrington struggles finishing at the rim and can rely a bit too much on his jumper. He’s a bit inconsistent from three, especially off catch-and-shoot opportunities. He only measured in at 195 pounds at the NBA Draft Combine, so he’ll need to bulk up and put on some weight in order to handle the strength and physicality of NBA defenders.
