Pick on the Moneyline for Diamondbacks-Phillies on June 21

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies meet in Philadelphia for the first time since the 2023 MLB Playoffs on Friday with the Diamondbacks looking to get starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery back to peak form.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Philadelphia Phillies (-135, 9.5)

Montgomery enters Friday with the team 7-4 in his starts despite him allowing at least three runs in seven of his 11 starts with an ERA of 6.00 with 3.2 walks per nine innings and a career-worst 6.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

Though the Phillies have dealt with some injuries in their lineup in recent weeks, they have Trae Turner back for an offense that leads the National League in runs at home with nearly 5.4 per game and gets to face both Montgomery and a shaky bullpen.

The Diamondbacks bullpen is 21st in the league with a 4.34 ERA while the Phillies mark of a 3.47 ERA is eighth in the league, their recent form is second to none with a league-leading 2.19 bullpen ERA since May 1.

The Phillies bullpen will be on-call with Taijuan Walker getting the start on Friday, who has a 5.33 ERA with 3.3 walks and 1.7 home runs allowed per nine innings, but seems to be settling after beginning the season on the injured list, allowing three earned runs or fewer in six of his last eight starts.

Both of Friday’s starting pitchers are shaky, but with the current form of the Phillies bullpen coupled with the team having the best record at home among all MLB teams at 29-11, the Phillies will give Walker the necessary support to pick up a win.
