Poland come into this match unbeaten in international play since last September. The competition hasn’t been the toughest, but wins over Ukraine and Turkey just before Euro 2024 is not something that can be dismissed. Netherlands have struggled at the Euros in the past, failing to reach the quarterfinal stage in the last three tournaments and even missing the 2016 Euros entirely. The Dutch enter this match with big wins over Canada and Iceland.
The big injury news is Poland captain and striker Robert Lewandowski, who has been ruled out due an injury he picked up in training. The expectation is Lewandowski will be able to return in the group stage, but every match he misses is a big blow for Poland’s chances at qualification for the knockout round. Netherlands are without Frenkie de Jong for the entire tournament.
Even though Poland have a strong record of late, it’s hard to think they can beat the Dutch without Lewandowski providing some magic in front of goal. I think the Netherlands attack of Cody Gakpo, Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst will be too much for Poland. Give me the Dutch to grab all three points in this one.
