The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals are looking to track down the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central division race and both are looking for a much-needed win on Tuesday when they hook up in Cincinnati.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds (-120, 9.5)
The Reds give Andrew Abbott the start, who enters with just a 3-4 record despite a 2.68 ERA with two runs or fewer allowed in each of his past four starts.
While Abbott has a 4.51 fielding independent with 6.8 strikeouts and 1.4 home runs per nine innings allowed, but has been at his best at home with a 2.11 ERA in Cincinnati and faces a Cardinals lineup that entered Monday 26th in total runs per game and their 3.8 runs per game on the road ranked 27th.
Additionally, the Cardinals lineup has struggled to hit left-handed pitchers, posting a .203 against southpaws this season, which is last in the league.
Countering for the Cardinals is Kyle Gibson, who has allowed at least three runs in three of his past four starts, but is still registering a 3.81 ERA and 4.38 fielding independent with many of those runs being unearned.
While the Reds entered Monday 20th in the league in runs per game, the lineup led the team to a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend and entered the series with at least four runs scored in three of their last four games.
With the Reds also entering the series 13th in bullpen ERA at 3.81 with the Cardinals’ 4.00 bullpen ERA ranked 17th in the league and the Cardinals having their travel schedule jumbled up with Sunday night’s rain delay against the Chicago Cubs, the Reds wi stay hot at home with a win on Tuesday.
