The Texas Rangers are back in the World Series after stunning the defending-champion Houston Astros in a classic seven-game ALCS. The road team won all seven games of the series, with Texas bouncing back from a gut-punch loss in Game 5 to win Games 6 and 7 in Houston by a combined score of 19-4. Now that Texas has punched its ticket to the Fall Classic, let’s look at the team’s history in the World Series and their last trip.
Rangers World Series history
Texas has made the World Series exactly twice, doing it in successive fashion in both 2010 and 2011. They lost the former in five games to the Even Year Giants, while they lost the latter in seven games to the Cardinals in one of the most heartbreaking endings in postseason history. (Just try saying the words “David Freese” anywhere in the DFW metroplex.) Other than that, it’s been a pretty barren history for the franchise since moving from D.C. to north Texas in 1972. The Rangers are one of just five MLB teams to have never won a title, along with the Rays (established in 1998), Rockies (1993), Mariners (1977) and Brewers (1970) — a list they’ll look to leave behind against either the Phillies or Diamondbacks, with Game 1 starting on Friday, Sept. 27.
