First Touchdown Scorer Prop Bets for Jaguars vs. Ravens on Thursday Night Football

You have to feel for the NFL schedule maker on this one.

In theory, a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Jaguars and the Ravens is a clash of AFC powerhouses and a possible playoff preview. However, after injuries to both Lamar Jackson (thumb) and Snoop Huntley (toe) last Sunday, we’re now left with what projects to be a very lopsided and ugly affair. No offense intended to the Joe Fagnano (+5000) fans out there.

Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t bet on it. Let’s break down the first touchdown scorer market on the DraftKings Sportsbook and make a couple picks.

Jakobi Meyers First TD Scorer (+1400)

It can be really tough to pinpoint who is going to score any touchdown for the Jaguars, let alone the first of a game. This is simply an offense that doesn’t really have a heliocentric force at its disposal — especially in the receiving corps. Parker Washington (+650) is the No. 1 guy, and his production leads the group eight weeks into the season; but this is also a team that gives significant snaps and routes to Brian Thomas Jr. (+2000) and Josh Cameron (+2200). Brenton Strange (+1000) fights for targets with rookie Nate Boerkircher (+2000). Heck, Travis Hunter (+2800) still gets the occasional snap at wideout, and he even caught a touchdown back in Week 6. So… Why Meyers? Well, according to PFF, while it’s Washington who leads Jacksonville in red zone targets (15), it’s Meyers who leads the squad in end zone targets (7). That’s a pretty important distinction. At 6’2, Meyers towers over his teammate, and it makes sense that he’d be the preferred option of Trevor Lawrence (+1900) when the field condenses.

Jaguars D/ST First TD Scorer (+1900)

I probably don’t have to justify this pick too much. I think everyone knows the deal. The Ravens are in an incredibly unenviable position on Thursday, as they’re forced to start 25-year-old rookie Joe Fagnano after injuries to Lamar Jackson (thumb) and Snoop Huntley (toe). Fagnano barely took any first team snaps before making his emergency appearance in Week 8 against the Bills, and he barely got to practice this week due to an ankle issue of his own and the truncated TNF scheduling. Baltimore already has a trade in place for veteran Jacoby Brissett, so it seems like even they’re admitting how much of an uphill climb this is going to be. Against Buffalo, Fagnano was sacked on three of his 25 drop backs. He completed just 47.6% of his pass attempts and threw a pick. The Jaguars defense, which has forced a turnover on a league-best 16.7% of opponent drives, must be absolutely licking its chops.
