It’s a dire time for the Baltimore Ravens and their offense. This past Sunday against the Bills, they had Lamar Jackson for one play before he seriously injured his thumb, sending him to IR. Not long after, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley suffered a turf toe injury, knocking him out of the game (and the rest of the season). That thrust emergency quarterback Joe Fagnano into the game, and he struggled against Buffalo in his first NFL action. With the rookie field general expected to be under center again in Week 9, how do we bet on Zay Flowers’ player prop market?

The floor-ceiling combo Zay Flowers has offered this year is unreal. He recorded at least five catches and 50 yards in his first six games, going over 100 yards in three. Despite losing Lamar Jackson for three games, he stayed productive with Huntley under center. Getting Jackson back was supposed to thrust him back into elite production, but with two quarterbacks down, Flowers was a forgotten man. Against the Bills, he drew a season-low five targets and caught none.

Flowers wasn’t the only one to suffer in that performance. Baltimore’s wide receivers combined for two catches; the other ten completed passes went to running backs and tight ends. Fagnano was under fire from the second he stepped under center, completing only 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards while taking three sacks and throwing an interception.

Things won’t get any easier. The Bills defense they faced last week is 26th in EPA per play allowed; Jacksonville, whom they’re facing on a short week, is third. On the bright side, they have time to prepare for Fagnano as the starter and draw up some plays he is comfortable with. But with Derrick Henry struggling and facing a thriving Jaguars run defense, they have little to hide him. To win this game, Fagnano will have to air it out.

I’m willing to bet the Ravens will try to build Fagnano’s confidence early, using screens to Flowers and their running backs for easy completions and to test Jacksonville. But they’ll come ready to wrap up ball carriers, and I don’t see Fagnano having much success pushing the ball downfield, which lowers Flowers’ upside.
