By: Bryan Armetta

At long last, we’ve finally reached the merge on Survivor 51. Two tribes turned into three, creating even more chaos as all of our players finally reunite. It’s the individual portion of the game, so anything goes. Tonight’s episode has the potential to impact the rest of the season, depending on who goes home.

What’s on tap for our 13 remaining castaways? Below, we’ll recap all the twists and turns from Wednesday’s seventh episode, titled “The Girl at the Prom”, along with revealing who was voted out.

Survivor 51 Episode 7 Recap

Merge!

At long last, three tribes have become one. To boot, it’s the return of a Survivor classic: the merge feast. However, there’s an Open Era caveat: you have to earn it in another Survivor throwback: a gross eating challenge. In order to take part in the feast, players will need to wolf down two massive grubs. Raising the stakes, only the first ten to chew theirs will get to enjoy the feast. That leaves three players on the outs.

In a hectic scramble to eat bugs, it’s Kristin, Cristian and Sharonda who are unable to complete the task in time. The trio heads back to the beach together, a crucial moment to strategize. Keep in mind, Kristin has possession of the tethered idol which should give her a close bond with Sharonda. With that being said, the latter getting voted out would turn it into a normal immunity idol now that Ori is gone. Kristin reveals that news to Sharonda, a bold move meant to build trust. To boot, Kristin hands her the immunity idol as an ultimate show of loyalty.

Savu’s Outnumbered

Sharonda is worried; old Toka outnumbers old Savu on the merged beach. Fortunately, she’s tied to Devin and Jelly via the Helicopter Alliance. Jelly is looking for new allies, and links up with an old co-conspirator in Mike. The two worked together early in the game, and he’s been looking for someone to bounce ideas off of all season. That wasn’t it for Mike in episode seven. During a meeting with Eric, the two discuss bringing in pre-merge allies in an effort to form a brand new majority.

As for the Toka’s, it’s all about building trust. Kilby, Lewis and Maggie have a strong connection, and there’s faith that Brady, Carter and Thien An will link up as well. Brady and Kilby are hoping to get rid of people they have no read on, and that’s Mike. Due to a lack of social ties with old Toka, he looks like a clear-cut vote out tonight

Pole Position

The first individual immunity challenge of Survivor 51 is fairly simple. Players are given a giant pole, which they use to balance a whale statue on a podium. As the challenge progresses, the remaining contestants will need to gradually move back further on their platform without dropping the statue.

In a matter of minutes, there’s just nine left in the challenge. Players then reset to the final portion of their platform, placing them farther from their statues and increasing the difficulty. In a matter of minutes, we’re left with just three remaining castaways. It’s Kristin, Lewis and Mike fighting it out for a shot at an immunity necklace. Kristin steps off soon after, leaving the two guys as the last men standing. It’s Lewis that eventually drops, giving Mike a needed win and guarantee to escape tonight’s vote.

A Massive Scramble

Mike’s win has changed the mood around camp, for better and for worse. Kilby’s plans to send the MLB executive home will have to wait at least another week. It’s a different story for Eric, who wants to align with Mike on sending the two Toka’s home. However, he might be doing too hard of a sell. He tried swaying Brady towards his side by bad-mouthing Kilby, a move that the wrestler sees through as a ploy. As a result, the old Toka’s begin considering Eric as a target for elimination.

Maggie has another thought, vying for a much bigger move. She believes Kristin is armed with a massive advantage, and should be taken care of sooner rather than later. Maggie starts rallying the troops, even looping in outsiders like Jelly and Mike. However, those two aren’t really considering siding with the Toka’s. Instead, they view Brady as a more logical vote out.

Kristin isn’t too keen on sending Brady home, as he was someone she felt a bond with. Mike then tells Kristin she needs to take part in this vote, saying that this could be the “end of your game tonight.” According to him, it’s a mandate from Jelly. Kristin is offended at the tactics, and goes to Brady to discuss a potential move. In the process, she reveals that Mike is a traitor.

Brady has a private conversation with Mike, claiming that his former Toka ally got caught scheming. To boot, Brady implies to Mike that Kristin won’t be working with the old Savu’s after all.

Maggie is annoyed at Brady’s knack for spilling the beans, viewing a potential vote out of Kristin as a no-brainer prior to his meddling. She reveals just as much in a chat with Devin, who then suggests to her that she helps take out Brady. At this point, names are flying in from every direction.

Another Terrific Tribal Council

At tribal, Mike claims that he was looped in on “a plan” late, despite having already been part of a different plan. It seems like he’s attempting to do some damage control with the Toka’s. Brady even tells Kristin that he’s “so full of s***”, and she agrees wholeheartedly. As the night progresses, more players begin whispering with one another.

At a certain point, things evolve into a full-blown live tribal. Brady and Eric are the two names being mentioned the most. and it looks like one of the two will be sent home. While some players have conviction on the vote, others are more confused at what’s going on.

It’s a razor-thin margin between Brady and Eric. After eight votes, they’re tied at four apiece. The last three names on the parchment have Brady written down. As a result, he becomes the first member of the jury.
