What Is DraftKings NFL Moonshot? How the Live Betting Game Works

Published:

By: Steve Buchanan

DraftKings NFL Moonshot is a live betting game that turns an NFL sequence into an interactive experience where the payout multiplier can grow with each qualifying play. Instead of placing multiple live bets during a game, Moonshot lets bettors choose a stake and target payout multiplier before a round begins, then follow the action as positive plays build the round’s multiplier.

If you’re wondering how NFL Moonshot works on DraftKings, where to find it and how the payout multiplier is calculated, this FAQ covers everything you need to know about DraftKings Sportsbook’s live football betting experience.

DraftKings NFL Moonshot FAQ

What is DraftKings NFL Moonshot?

NFL Moonshot is a live betting game available on DraftKings Sportsbook. Before a round starts, players select a wager amount and a target payout multiplier. Qualifying football plays increase the round’s multiplier from 0.00x.

If the multiplier reaches or exceeds your selected target, the wager wins and pays at that target. Players may also have the option to accept a cash-out offer between plays while a round remains live.

How does NFL Moonshot work on DraftKings?

NFL Moonshot follows a simple format:

  • Place a wager and select a target payout multiplier before the round begins
  • Watch the round multiplier increase as qualifying rushes and completed passes occur
  • First downs, yardage milestones and offensive touchdowns can add to the multiplier
  • If the multiplier reaches or exceeds your target, your wager wins at the selected target
  • You may be offered a cash-out option between plays while the wager is active
  • If an incomplete pass or offensive turnover occurs before your target is reached or you cash out, the active wager settles as a loss

The goal is to reach your chosen multiplier before the round ends.

What makes NFL Moonshot different from traditional live betting?

Unlike a standard live bet that settles on one outcome, NFL Moonshot follows a sequence of plays and allows the multiplier to build as the offense moves the ball.

  • The multiplier can grow across multiple qualifying plays
  • Positive rushes and completed passes increase the multiplier
  • First downs, yardage milestones and offensive touchdowns can create larger multiplier jumps
  • Bettors choose their target payout before the round starts
  • Eligible active wagers can be cashed out between plays

Moonshot is designed to make the live football sequence more interactive than placing multiple individual in-game wagers.

How do payout multipliers work in NFL Moonshot?

NFL Moonshot uses a multiplier system that increases based on qualifying plays during a round.

  • Completed pass for positive yards: +0.2x
  • Rush for positive yards: +0.2x
  • Every full 10 yards gained on a rush or pass: +0.5x
  • First down: +0.5x
  • Offensive touchdown: +2.0x

The action values double beginning with the second scoring event of a round and double again with each additional scoring event. They also double on the 10th rush or completed pass, then every fifth rush or completed pass after that. These bonuses compound during the round and reset for a new round.

For example, a $10 wager with a 3.0x target pays $30 if the round multiplier reaches or passes 3.0x. If a bettor accepts a cash-out offer first, the payout is the offered cash-out value accepted.

Are there bonus multipliers in NFL Moonshot?

Yes. NFL Moonshot includes bonus multiplier opportunities as a round continues. Action values double with the second scoring event and every additional scoring event, and they also double on the 10th rush or completed pass and every fifth qualifying play thereafter.

Those bonuses compound during the round, which can create larger multiplier increases as a long offensive sequence unfolds.

Can I place multiple bets during an NFL Moonshot round?

No. Bets cannot be placed on a round that has already started, and a player’s stake and selected target payout multiplier cannot be changed after the wager is placed.

While one round is live, the next round may be available to bet on before it begins.

What happens when an incomplete pass or turnover occurs?

An incomplete pass or offensive turnover ends an active NFL Moonshot round. If the multiplier has not reached the selected target and the bettor has not accepted a cash-out offer, the active wager settles as a loss.

Offensive turnovers include interceptions, lost fumbles, turnovers on downs and safeties. Spikes count as incomplete passes and end a round. Kneels are negative rushing plays and do not increase the multiplier.

Punts, field goal attempts, kickoffs, extra points and two-point tries do not increase the multiplier or end a round. Plays overturned or nullified by penalties do not count; first downs awarded through penalties do increase the multiplier, but penalty yardage does not.

When does an NFL Moonshot round start and end?

A round begins on a qualifying rush or pass snapped outside the opponent’s 20-yard line. The market label identifies the incomplete pass or offensive turnover that would end the round within that half.

  • Red zone: Rounds cannot begin at or inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Wagering on upcoming rounds is suspended while the ball is inside the 20 and resumes once it moves back outside.
  • Unstarted rounds: If the designated incompletion or offensive turnover occurs before a round starts, the wager is voided and the stake is returned.
  • Halftime or end of game: If an active round reaches halftime or the end of the game without an incompletion or offensive turnover, active wagers settle at the current multiplier, even if it is below 1.00x. A round that never starts is voided and the stake is returned.
  • Overtime: Rounds do not carry over between halves or overtime periods.

Can I cash out an NFL Moonshot bet?

Players may accept an offered cash-out value between plays while their wager remains active. The available cash-out value is the amount offered when the bettor accepts it.

Is NFL Moonshot exclusive to DraftKings?

Yes. Moonshot is a proprietary live football betting experience available exclusively on DraftKings Sportsbook.
