NFL DFS Picks: Best DraftKings Fantasy Football Plays for Week 8

Published:

By: Stan Son

Four teams are on a bye this week with just 11 games on the card. Plenty of elite quarterback options are on the slate, including Drake Maye, who has thrown 12 touchdowns with only two interceptions over the last four weeks— putting up a high of 42.5 fantasy points over that span. Elsewhere, Lamar Jackson is finally back for the Ravens, so it makes sense that the Ravens/Bills game has the highest total on the slate.

We’ve got 11 games on Sunday’s main slate. Five of them have a three-point spread or less on DraftKings Sportsbook. even games have a total of at least 45 points, with BAL/BUF the highest at 54.5. One game has a total fewer than 40 points: CLE/PIT.

Quarterback

Stud

Dak Prescott ($6,300)

Prescott has put up double-digit FPTS in every game this season, and that should continue this week. The game will be played in a dome and both defenses stink. Arizona is 21st in pressure rate and the -74.42 expected points by the pass defense are fourth-worst. The 17 passing touchdowns allowed are the most while the 112.5 passer rating is the second-highest. Plenty of points should be scored given the very high total, and Prescott should thrive.

Other Options – Josh Allen ($7,700), Joe Burrow ($7,000), Lamar Jackson ($6,800), Drake Maye ($6,500), Trevor Lawrence ($6,200)

Value

Geno Smith ($5,200)

This game has a decent total of 45.5 and it should be a competitive affair given the very short spread. The Jets pass defense isn’t great while Kirk Cousins leads the league in touchdown passes, so it’s likely the Raiders put up points, — which would force the Jets to respond in kind. Smith has two games on the season with three passing touchdowns, finishing with 30 and 24.5 FPTS. The Raiders pass defense has allowed 16 touchdowns, along with a 103.7 passer rating and 65.8 completion percentage.

Other Options – Jacoby Brissett ($5,700), Kyler Murray ($5,600), Kirk Cousins ($5,500), Michael Penix Jr. ($5,300), Malik Willis ($4,900)

Running Back

Stud

Javonte Williams ($7,300)

Williams has put up double-digit FPTS in all but one game this season, with three over 20 and a high of 31.3 FPTS. The Cardinals rush defense has allowed 4.7 yards per carry, 126.3 yards per game and eight touchdowns. There should be plenty of scoring opportunities in this one. In two games in which Williams scored 24.5 and 31.3 FPTS, Prescott also went over 20 FPTS, so both can put up good fantasy games together.

Other Options – Kenneth Walker III ($8,800), James Cook III ($7,900), Kyren Williams ($7,500), Derrick Henry ($7,200), Ashton Jeanty ($6,700), Jaylen Warren ($6,600), Braelon Allen ($6,100) if Breece Hall is out

Value

Jonah Coleman ($4,300)

Coleman returned from injury last week and led the three-headed Broncos backfield with a 49% snap share. He rushed nine times for 54 yards while catching both targets for 15 yards. JK Dobbins hasn’t been good this season, averaging only 3.4 yards per carry, while Coleman has looked explosive and powerful in the limited time he’s been on the field. He has good size at 5-foot-8 and 220 pounds, so there’s a chance he gets more of the money touches and he’s a better option in the pass game. Most importantly, RJ Harvey — the pass catching back for the Broncos — is out for this one. Look for Coleman to likely soak up those snaps as a result.

Other Options – Bhayshul Tuten ($5,900), Jeremiyah Love ($5,400), Rico Dowdle ($5,100), Dylan Sampson ($5,000), Blake Corum ($5,000),

Wide Receiver

Stud

CeeDee Lamb ($8,100)

If I like Prescott, then it makes sense that I’d like his number one receiver. Lamb leads the Cowboys with 81 targets, which is second in the league. He’s put up double-digit FPTS in all by one contest this season with four over 20 FPTS. Lamb has also accessed a ceiling that few have been able to attain: 38.3 and 44.3 FPTS. Arizona has allowed a league-leading 17 passing touchdowns, and this could be a back-and-forth affair with plenty of opportunities for fantasy points from both teams.

Other Options – Puka Nacua ($8,600), Ja’Marr Chase ($7,700), Zay Flowers ($7,200), Drake London ($7,000), Tee Higgins ($6,700), Parker Washington ($6,500), Garrett Wilson ($6,300), Michael Wilson ($6,200)

Value

Ja’Kobi Lane ($3,400)

Since returning from injury, Lane played 54% and 69% of the snaps the last two weeks. The Ravens wideout has garnered five targets in both contests, with a total of three red zone opportunities. Tyler Huntley was the quarterback in those games, so there is a bit of uncertainty with Lamar Jackson starting this one. That said, Lane did receive three targets from Jackson in Week 1, when he played 40% of the snaps. It’s likely that the Ravens will be going to the air often in this one, so the rookie should get his chances.

Other Options – Kahlil Shakir ($5,600), Tre Tucker ($5,500), Keon Coleman ($5,100), Omar Cooper Jr. ($4,800), KC Concepcion Jr. ($4,700), Ryan Flournoy ($4,600), DeMario Douglas ($4,400), Rashod Bateman ($3,900), Efton Chism III ($3,400), Travis Hunter ($3,100)

Tight End

Stud

TJ Hockenson ($4,600)

In Week 4, Hockenson caught all 13 targets from Kyler Murray for 119 yards. The following week? One target while Murray threw 30 times. Last week, Murray attempted 24 passes and looked for Hockenson five times, —which he converted for four catches, 35 yards and a touchdown. So, there is volatility and the volume may not be there since Minnesota is playing around the dominant defense. That said, there’s a chance that the Lions see plenty of success on offense, which could force the Vikings out of the shell. Even if that scenario doesn’t manifest, the matchup is one of the best in football, as the Lions have allowed the most FPTS to the position on the season.

Other Options – Brock Bowers ($7,600), Trey McBride ($7,400), Kyle Pitts Sr. ($4,500), Hunter Henry ($4,300)

Value

Darnell Washington ($2,900)

Washington is splitting snaps with Pat Freiermuth and has only 23 targets on the season. That said, when the Steelers get in the red zone, he’s a primary option. The Penn State product has garnered six red zone looks over the last four weeks, and he’s converted those into three touchdowns.

Other Options – Brenton Strange ($4,000), Tyler Higbee ($3,800), Michael Mayer ($3,600), Eli Raridon ($3,300), Mason Taylor ($3,300), Davis Allen ($2,800)

Defense/Special Teams

Stud

Steelers D/ST vs. Cleveland Browns ($3,300)

Pittsburgh is only 29th in pressure rate, but the defense has racked up 18 sacks, tied for the fifth-most across the league. The 11 turnovers are tied for the third-most as well. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has taken 25 sacks — the most in the NFL — while throwing three interceptions.

Other Options – Bengals ($3,800), Jaguars ($3,700), Rams ($3,500)

Value

Falcons D/ST at Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($2,500)

Tampa Bay wants to run the ball, but the Falcons rush defense has been solid, allowing 3.8 yards per carry and 88.9 yards per game. When Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was healthy, he only threw two touchdowns while throwing two interceptions in three games. In his return from a three-game absence, he only threw 11 times, so we don’t know how his right thumb is and how effective he’ can throw’ll be under center.

Other Options – Vikings ($3,000), Buccaneers ($2,900), Broncos ($2,300)

More on this game

Stan joined DraftKings in December of 2020. It was a glorious time, except for that whole COVID thing, when we got Madden streams and boisterous bat flips from the KBO. I was brought on board to bring some West Coast flavor. I especially love hoops, and most of my content is in that arena. When I walk along the beach, strumming my guitar, the beat that I hear is not one of crashing waves. No, it is the beat of the ball bouncing off the hardwood with highs provided by the squeaks of the sneakers. Ball is life.
