Omar Cooper Jr. ($4,800) stayed hot vs. the Dolphins this past Sunday, catching 5-of-5 targets for 115 yards and a touchdown (25.5 FPTS).
This comes after Cooper Jr. caught 6-of-7 targets for 103 yards and a touchdown in Week 6 vs. the Patriots (25.3 FPTS), which was the rookie’s first full game of the season after he missed four in a row with a high-ankle sprain he suffered just a few plays into the season opener.
Cooper Jr. was selected 30th overall in the first round by the Jets in this past NFL Draft and the Indiana product has looked well worth the investment the last two weeks, ranking as the No. 4 receiver for fantasy football over this time.
Up next, Cooper Jr. is facing the Raiders this Sunday, so is the rookie a must-start for this matchup?
Cooper Jr.’s Week 8 Fantasy Outlook
Many attributed Cooper Jr.’s breakout performance in Week 6 to Adonai Mitchell ($4,000, finger) being sidelined, but Cooper Jr. didn’t slow down with Mitchell back in Week 7, as Cooper Jr. operated as the Jets’ No. 2 receiver over Mitchell.
Cooper Jr. saw a 16.7% target share while running a route on 66.7% of his team’s dropbacks, which ranked second behind only Garrett Wilson. Meanwhile, Mitchell saw a 10% target share on a 51.5% route rate.
Seeing Cooper Jr. play ahead of Mitchell was a great sign and likely means Cooper Jr. is locked in as New York’s No. 2 wideout, which is very deserving, as the rookie has been outstanding this season.
Cooper Jr. is averaging a tremendous 4.9 YPPR, which easily ranks first among all the players who have run 20+ routes this season. Ranking second is notably the NFL’s leading pass catcher and reigning Offensive Player of the Year in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is averaging 4.1 YPPR.
Cooper Jr. has hauled in all but one of his 13 targets and he is commanding a target on 26% of his routes, including four red-zone targets. Fantasy-wise, Cooper Jr. is producing 0.58 FPTS per snap and 4.57 FPTS per touch, both of which rank top-10 among all skill players.
Now, Cooper Jr. faces a Raiders team that ranks fourth in pace and is giving up the fifth-most yards per pass this season (7.7). 67.8% of Cooper Jr.’s routes this season have come from the slot and Las Vegas is giving up the fourth-most touchdowns to players who line up in the slot (five).
This is a gorgeous spot for Cooper Jr. and him topping 20 FPTS for the third game in a row is a possibility. Cooper Jr. is an awesome WR3 for season-long leagues for Week 8 and at only $4,800 on DraftKings, Cooper Jr. is a tough fade for this Sunday’s NFL DFS slate.
