Jakobi Meyers Start or Sit Advice for Week 6
The Jacksonville Jaguars are playing a second straight game in London this week, as they host the Houston Texans after dramatically defeating the Philadelphia Eagles on a last-second field goal in Week 5. The Jaguars have started the year 4-1 and are atop the division coming into this contest, and the offense has been productive. Jakobi Meyers has been the team’s second receiver after joining the team mid-season via trade last year.
Meyers has multiple catches in four of his five games this season and has totaled 202 receiving yards on 15 catches with two receiving touchdowns. His most recent score was in Week 3 against his former team, the Patriots.
Meyers has led Jacksonville’s wide receivers in snaps in each of the past two games, with more than an 80% snap share in each game from Week 2 through Week 5. He’s running routes on nearly every drop back and has a 13.1% target share that ranks third on the team behind Parker Washington and Brenton Strange.
Last week, Meyers caught two of three targets for 37 yards and an underwhelming 5.7 FPTS. He has been held under 7.0 FPTS in three of his last four games despite playing so many snaps. This week against the Texans, he gets a much more favorable matchup, since Houston has allowed the third-most FPTS to wide receivers so far this season. In each game, opposing receivers have caught at least 10 passes, averaging 14.6 catches for 193.4 yards per game and scoring six touchdowns in the five contests.
With such a potentially juicy matchup and so much time on the field, Meyers is a low-end WR3 or sleeper FLEX play this week in standard-sized fantasy football leagues. Rosters are stretched a little thinner this week with four teams on a bye week, as well, so Meyers remains a touchdown-dependent option. He definitely has the potential to produce, but there are other receivers who are more reliable on many leagues’ waiver wires.
He isn’t on the main DraftKings slate with his early start time, but he’s a strong option to consider in single-game Showdown contests like the NFL Showdown $400K Showdown Special [$100K to 1st] (HOU vs JAX). In those contests, Meyers has a salary of $7,000 in a FLEX spot and $10,500 in a Captain’s Pick spot. His inconsistent workload makes him too high-risk to be a safe captain play, but he brings enough upside to be a FLEX consideration.
For season-long leagues, he’s an emergency play with upside in the matchup, although he’s still hard to count on if better options are available.
