DK Metcalf Start or Sit Advice for Week 4

Metcalf ($9,000 for Showdown) is coming off a solid outing in Week 3. The receiver caught 3-of-5 targets for 31 yards and a touchdown vs. the Bengals. Metcalf finished with 12.1 FPTS, but this is just the first time he has cracked double figures this season and he only finished as the No.35 scoring receiver for Week 3.

Metcalf’s usage has been strong, leading the Steelers with a 95.2% route rate and a 20.9% target share, including seven targets over 20 yards and five redzone targets. Unfortunately, the wideout has been very inefficient, as he and Aaron Rodgers ($9,800) have struggled to find a rhythm.

Metcalf owns a career-worst 45.8% catch rate and he is averaging a pathetic 0.78 YPPR, both of which rank bottom-10 among the 122 players who have seen 10+ targets this season. Metcalf has only forced one missed tackle and he already has three drops, which is tied for the most in the NFL.

Fantasy wise, Metcalf is scoring just 0.14 FPTS per snap, which ranks 57th of the 75 receivers who have played at least 50% of their team’s snaps this season. It hasn’t been pretty for Metcalf and now, he meets the Browns for a divisional matchup Thursday night.

Cleveland uses man coverage at the highest rate in the league (43.5%) and against this type of coverage this season, Metcalf has only caught 4-of-9 targets for 40 yards, resulting in a pitiful 0.8 YPPR. The Browns are allowing the third-most touchdowns to receivers (5), so Metcalf could get lucky with a touchdown, but I wouldn’t be too confident in that.

Metcalf has only scored once on five redzone targets and that score was the result of a busted coverage last week, when two Bengals defenders ran into each other.

Thursday’s AFC North matchup between the Steelers and Browns carries a modest 38.5-point total on DraftKings Sportsbook – which is the lowest total of Week 4 – and Metcalf is averaging nearly 2.0 FPTS per game less in divisional matchups for his career.

This is bad spot for the receiver and Metcalf should be on your bench this week. In fact, coming off the season-best showing, this is a strong time to sell high on Metcalf, as it’s hard to have much faith him going forward.
