Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson ($7,300) exited Sunday’s win over the Buccaneers with an ankle injury. With the star wideout absent for most of the contest, Jordan Addison ($5,300) easily had his best game of the season, catching five of nine targets for 90 yards and a touchdown (20 FPTS).
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jefferson avoided long-term injury with an ankle sprain and may even be available for the Vikings’ Week 4 matchup against the Dolphins.
While this is a positive update on Jefferson, his status for Sunday remains unclear. If the star receiver is inactive, will Addison be a must-start in fantasy football?
Jordan Addison: Week 4 fantasy football outlook
Addison went scoreless in Week 1 and posted only 4.1 FPTS in Week 2 alongside Jefferson. But with Jefferson playing only three snaps in Week 3, Addison erupted for 90 yards, his first touchdown of the season, and 20 FPTS.
This isn’t the first time we have seen Addison perform well without Jefferson, either. Including Sunday, Addison has averaged 15.4 FPTS across eight career games without Jefferson, including three performances with 20+ FPTS. In these games, Addison is getting a target on 22% of his routes and averaging 1.9 YPPR. When Jefferson is active, Addison has a 17% target share and averages 1.6 YPPR.
Miami’s defense has been dreadful this season, ranking 31st in opponent yards per pass attempt (9.1) and dead last in quarterback completion rate (80.3 percent). This game is also in Minnesota; Addison is averaging 3.2 more FPTS per game at home than on the road in his career.
Addison topping 20 FPTS again is a realistic outcome if Jefferson is inactive; in that situation, Addison will be a must-play for DFS at only $5,300 on DraftKings and an awesome WR3/FLEX play for season-long formats.
