Two Heavyweight prospects, Adama Diop and Zaurbek Sabanov, are facing off in the co-main event of tonight’s Dana White’s Contender Series card. Both fighters are very powerful: Diop is 6-1 with five knockouts, while Sabanov is 4-0 with three wins by knockout. This is the fourth Heavyweight fight on Season 10 of DWCS.

Zaurbek Sabanov Round 1 (-150)

Zaurbek Sabanov is a talented Russian heavyweight prospect, last beating Ivan Romanov by first-round knockout in June. Including his amateur career, he is 6-0. Diop’s previous victory came against Matunga Djikasa in a second-round knockout in April. Four of Diop’s six MMA wins have come in the first round.

In this contest, Sabanov is the favorite at -325 with Diop as a +260 underdog on DraftKings Sportsbook. This fight is -1600 to not go the distance, with an over/under of 1.5 rounds. The under is -345, and the over is +250. 

Sabanov is three inches taller than Diop in this fight (6’4″ vs. 6’1″). With Sabanov being the bigger fighter, he should be able to win the striking battle on the feet if he keeps Diop at range. After a year away from MMA, Sabanov was extra aggressive in his last fight in June, and I see that continuing tonight. This season on DWCS, all three Heavyweight fights have ended by a finish in the first round. If Diop starts slowly in this contest, Sabanov could take advantage in the first round. I’m taking Sabanov to win in the first round at -150.
