Travis Kelce Start or Sit Advice for Week 2
Kelce ($6,200 for Showdown) started his 14th season in the NFL with a solid outing in Week 1 vs. the Broncos. The tight end caught 3-of-5 targets for 71 yards, resulting in 10.1 FPTS.
Almost all of Kelce’s production came on a 59-yard catch he made in the third quarter, but nonetheless, this was a decent performance for the veteran against a stout Denver defense that is allowing the fewest yards per play in the league the last two seasons (4.5).
This comes after Kelce finished as the No.4 scoring tight end for fantasy last season, averaging 11.2 FPTS per game, including nine showings of double-digit FPTS.
Kelce’s usage remained strong in last week’s season opener. The veteran commanded a target on 19% of his routes while running a route on 79% of his team’s dropbacks. Kelce also led the Chiefs with an excellent 2.7 YPPR.
Kelce obviously isn’t the same superstar we saw dominant the league for many years, but he is still a viable fantasy tight end, given he is going to see a high target share for this Chiefs’ offense that is thin on pass catchers.
Rashee Rice ($9,400) is playing, but he looks slow as he works his way back from a knee injury that cut his campaign short last season – Rice averaged a pathetic 0.63 YPPR in Week 1. Furthermore, outside of Rice, the other receivers for Kansas City are two up-and-down veterans in Xavier Worthy ($5,400) and Tyquan Thornton ($3,800).
Patrick Mahomes ($10,000) is going to rely on Kelce heavily until Rice regains his form and the tight end gets a plus spot vs. the Colts for Week 2. Indianapolis is giving up the third-most yards to the position the last two seasons (1,252) and Kelce has a great chance to crack double-digit FPTS in this matchup.
