Jonathan Taylor First TD Scorer (+500)

There’s nothing especially exciting about backing Jonathan Taylor to score the first touchdown, but his role in Week 1 pretty clearly dictates how much of this Colts offense revolves around the RB. Not only was Taylor on the field for all but six of Indianapolis’ 54 offensive snaps against Baltimore — an 88.9% snap share — but the former All-Pro saw every running back carry of the contest. That obviously included all five of the team’s red zone rushing attempts, on which Taylor scored a pair of touchdowns. I think the Colts aren’t going to risk using Daniel Jones (+2500) in any sort of “tush push” scenario this early in the season, not after his Achilles injury not more than nine months ago. That doesn’t leave a whole lot of competition for high-leverage touches.

Xavier Worthy First TD Scorer (+1000)

The Chiefs didn’t really force the ball vertically in their win over the Broncos on Monday Night Football. They didn’t have to. Still, with his elite speed, Worthy projects as that downfield threat that can take the top off a defense, and this is a matchup that might be very conducive to that type of wide receiver. The Colts’ secondary was burned time and time again versus the Ravens. Not only did Indianapolis concede a league-worst 12.2 yards per opponent passing attempt, it also surrendered a league-high three passing plays of over 40 yards — including a long touchdown to Zay Flowers. Worthy saw six targets in Week 1, which tied him for the team lead. He doesn’t need to score this game’s first touchdown on bomb from Patrick Mahomes (+1700), as he’ll see opportunities in the red zone, but it’s certainly a possibility. A decent one.
