The Dolphins opened their season with a deflating 27–13 loss in Las Vegas against the Raiders. Meanwhile, the 49ers return home after their stunning 27–7 upset win over the Los Angeles Rams in Australia.
This is the respective squads’ first meeting since Week 16 of the 2024 campaign, when Miami notched a 29–17 home victory.

Miami Dolphins
The Jeff Hafley era got off to a rough start, as the Dolphins opened their season with a brutal 27–13 loss to the lowly Raiders. They coughed up 290 yards of total offense to a Las Vegas lineup without Brock Bowers. The team had no answer for second-year running back Ashton Jeanty, who garnered 29 touches for 147 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.
Despite recording multiple picks off of Kirk Cousins, Miami’s largely pedestrian offense failed to capitalize. Malik Willis flashed dual-threat upside in his Dolphins debut with a rushing touchdown and a strong connection with rookie receiver Caleb Douglas, who caught five passes for 94 yards. Still, he couldn’t find the end zone through the air and served up an interception. The Dolphins’ offensive outlook begins and ends with star running back De’Von Achane, who underwhelmed with only 15 touches for 66 total yards in Week 1.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are the greatest football team that Australia has ever seen. They return home for the first game at Levi’s Stadium since Super Bowl LX, fresh off an epic 20-point upset over the superteam Rams overseas.
Fifth-year quarterback Brock Purdy was brilliant against LA’s vaunted defense, gelling with his renovated receiving room — headlined by future Hall of Famer Mike Evans — for 205 yards and three touchdowns versus one interception. San Francisco also added another weapon in its backfield, splitting carries between superstar RB Christian McCaffrey and 2026 third-rounder Kaelon Black.
Perhaps the most surprising takeaway from San Francisco’s victory came from how dominant the defense looked under new DC Raheem Morris. The Niners, anchored by Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, limited LA’s star-studded offense to just seven points — fewest of any team in Week 1. They held reigning league MVP Matthew Stafford scoreless with only 155 yards while forcing three turnovers.
