While Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke all kinds of box office records this summer, it exists in a long line of MCU smash hits. There may be another coming up later this year, too, with Avengers: Doomsday set to hit theaters in December. To further tee up that monumental crossover event, Marvel Studios re-released an extended edition of the last Avengers film on September 25. Avengers Endgame: Encore boasts several minutes of new content, as well as exclusive footage that leads directly into its sequel. So how much business did the alternate cut reel in over its first three days back on the big screen?
Here is a breakdown of how Avengers Endgame: Encore performed at the box office this past weekend:
Avengers Endgame: Encore Box Office
Avengers Endgame: Encore made an estimated $26.0 million at the box office between September 25 and September 27. That is a far cry from the film’s $357.1 million debut upon its initial release, obviously, but it now sits at $884.4 million overall. Spider-Man: Brand New Day still holds the all-time domestic crown at $950.7 million, followed by Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens at $936.7 million. Even with this latest bump, Avengers: Endgame remains in third.
According to Deadline, Avengers Endgame: Encore made $3.8 million in domestic Thursday night previews. That cash is technically counted as part of the film’s $11.2 Friday gross. It proceeded to make $8.6 million on Saturday and $6.2 million on Sunday. Avengers Endgame: Encore posted the largest domestic opening weekend by a re-release since The Lion King‘s $30.2 million 3D launch in 2011. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope still owns the modern record with the $35.9 million its special edition opened to in 1997. Avengers Endgame: Encore managed to beat out Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith‘s $25.5 million from its 20th anniversary re-release in 2025, as well as the 2012 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and the 1997 special edition of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.
Looking beyond the United States and Canada, Avengers Endgame: Encore has reeled in an additional $60.0 million overseas. In total, the film grossed $86.0 million worldwide this weekend. That brings the film’s lifetime total to $2.885 billion. If the re-release has legs, it could challenge Avatar for the highest-grossing movie of all time at $2.924 billion.
