Seven years after Avengers: Endgame closed out the Infinity Saga, Marvel Studios is bringing the 2019 blockbuster back to theaters on September 25 as Avengers: Endgame Encore. The special re-release includes new Avengers: Doomsday material, with additional footage available in select IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings.

Avengers: Endgame Encore is a theatrical re-release of the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame, with additional footage added. Reportedly, the run times for the IMAX and Infinity Vision versions of Endgame Encore are 3 hours, 6 minutes, and 14 seconds, which is five minutes longer than the original cut’s run time of 3 hours, 1 minute, and 11 seconds. All formats will get a sneak peek at Avengers: Doomsday, while moviegoers who see Endgame Encore on IMAX or Infinity Vision-certified screens can also get an additional sneak peek.
Endgame wrapped up the Infinity Saga of the MCU, with Cap, Iron Man and Thor leading what was left of the Earth’s mightiest heroes in a time heist to reverse Thanos’ snap. Of course, as Tony says, when you mess with time it tends to mess back, so the heroes are forced to make one last stand against Thanos.
Joe Russo, who co-directed both Endgame and the upcoming Doomsday, has called Endgame Encore “required viewing” and described it as a bridge between the two films. That makes the new footage more than a standard re-release gimmick — at least if Marvel delivers on that promise.
We already know that Steve Rogers will be back for Doomsday, as will Robert Downey Jr. — although RDJ won’t be back as Tony Stark, but rather the film’s big bad, Doctor Doom. How will Steve return to the fold after seemingly settling down for a happy life in the past with Peggy? How will Doom have the face of Tony Stark (if we see it at all)?
