Lanterns just shifted its focus to a whole new mystery this week, revisiting a major cliffhanger from the season premiere. Now, the True Detective-inspired Green Lantern show has just two weeks left to explain a major death, as well as solidify its place in James Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe.

When does Lanterns Episode 7 come out?
Season 1 Episode 7 will premiere on HBO at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 27. It will be available to stream on HBO Max at the same time. The episode is expected to have a runtime around 55 minutes.
Like The Penguin, House of the Dragon and most other major HBO titles, Lanterns will release one episode a week – all on Sunday nights. There will be eight episodes in Season 1, as there were for both seasons of Peacemaker and The Penguin. As a result, the finale will air on Sunday, October 4.

Who will show up this episode?
Lanterns seems to have fully committed to the 2026 timeline, leaving the 2016 plot in the rear-view mirror. That opened the door for two major cameos, which also helped tie the show closer to the rest of the DCU and additional comics lore. What to expect in Lanterns Episode 7?
Hal is dead – no manhunter impersonating him and no crystal heart, which had been a popular theory since the pilot. John isn’t telling Sheriff Kerry that he met with Hal at the diner the night before, either, just as his old mentor advised him. After convincing Guy Gardner to steal Hal’s old ring for a sham burial service, John used the ring’s last bit of juice to awaken the Hal-ogram. The virtually backed-up version of Hal can help John get into Hal’s voice-locked fortress, which could contain answers about why he was really back in Rushville to begin with. Sinestro just broke out of space prison, too, and it would make sense if that was connected.
Based on the Episode 7 preview from HBO Max, the Hal-orgram is going to fully join the investigation into his own death. And while this 2006 version of Hal has never met Kerry, it will be interesting to see how she reacts to his pseudo-return. Kerry got a “miracle” from Zoe back in the day, which could either be referring to her pinky growing back, getting the Gotham goons off her back or something else entirely. With her son, Noah, starting to take on a larger role after the time jump, keep an eye on how he plays into the mystery.

HBO has not publicly renewed Lanterns for a second season. However, according to a report from Jeff Sneider, the network has hired Halt and Catch Fire co-creator Christopher Cantwell to produce and write a potential Season 2.

Following Lanterns‘ eight-week run on HBO, the next DC film or TV show will be Clayface. The horror-adjacent movie about the titular shape-shifting Batman villain will hit theaters on October 23, 2026.
