After an explosive eight-episode arc, House of the Dragon Season 3 has come to a close. The Dance of the Dragons isn’t done just yet, though, nor is HBO’s continued deep dive into the lore behind Game of Thrones. The Targaryen civil war isn’t the only active spinoff series, since the family of silver-haired dragon riders is at the focus of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, as well.

When does A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 come out?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will be the next Game of Thrones project to hit HBO. The network announced that it had renewed the show for a second season in November 2025, before the first season had even aired. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2, which started filming in December 2025, will premiere sometime in 2027.
While the initial belief was that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms would return in January – one year after Season 1 debuted – that timeline is now up in the air. There was historic rain and flooding in Spain, leading to production complications and ultimately some delays in the shooting schedule. Still, actor Dexter Sol Ansell posted to his Instagram story on August 3 that he had wrapped production as Egg. Season 1 didn’t come out until nearly 16 months after it wrapped filming, but there likely won’t be quite as long of a gap this time around.
HBO has yet to publicly announce plans for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 3. But since Season 1 stuck so close to The Hedge Knight, showrunner Ira Parker still has two published Dunk and Egg novellas left at his disposal. Season 2 should tackle The Sworn Sword, leaving The Mystery Knight for season 3. Parker also said he has access to more than a dozen more outlines and ideas of future Dunk and Egg novellas straight from Martin that could serve as inspiration for Season 4 and beyond.
When does House of the Dragon Season 4 come out?
House of the Dragon Season 4, which is expected to be the final season of the series, is slated to come out sometime in 2028. HBO confirmed as much in November 2025, several months before the promotional run for Season 3 got underway. After Season 1 premiered in August 2022, Seasons 2 and 3 started in June 2024 and June 2026, respectively. As a result, it’s safe to assume that HBO is aiming for a summer release date for Season 4, as well.
Are there any other Game of Thrones spinoffs in development?
During Warner Bros.’ presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April, the studio previewed a handful of movies that are part of its upcoming slate. In the “2027 and Beyond” section, they unveiled Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, confirming that a film adaptation of King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros is in the works.
Beau Willimon, who was the showrunner for the first four seasons of House of Cards and a writer on both seasons of Andor, has been tasked with penning the screenplay. Aegon’s conquest took place 298 years before the events of Game of Thrones Season 1. For context, House of the Dragon started 186 years before the mainline show, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms started 89 years before we first meet Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister.
An article from The Hollywood Reporter back in January confirmed that the potential sequel series following Jon Snow is no longer in development. Instead, French-Vietnamese writer-producer Quoc Dang Tran is working on an Arya Stark sequel series as part of his overall deal with HBO. On top of that, the network is reportedly developing an animated spinoff series following the Sea Snake – Corlys Velaryon from House of the Dragon.
For any fans in the United Kingdom, there is even more Game of Thrones content to enjoy. Martin worked with director Dominic Cooke and playwright Duncan Macmillan to produce a stage production, Game of Thrones: The Mad King. The play premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon on August 8 and will run until September 5. It follows Lyanna Stark’s forbidden romance with Rhaegar Targaryen, including how that led to Robert Baratheon’s rebellion against King Aerys II. Younger versions of Ned Stark, Lord Varys and Cersei and Jamie Lannister feature prominently.
