BREAK IT DOWN:
(Stats taken from DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub)
Pete Crow-Armstrong 1+ Home Run (+324)
Crow-Armstrong has the second-most homers in the MLB with 41 long balls in his 149 games this season. PCA has hit eight of those homers in his last 11 games with a 52.8% hard-hit rate and an impressive 25% barrel rate. He has nine barrels and 19 hard-hit balls in those 11 games, and he is one of the public’s favorite options on Wednesday, when he’ll face righty Logan Henderson. Henderson has been very good lately, but PCA is 1-for-3 with a homer against him in their past career meetings. Of his 41 homers, 30 have come against right-handed pitchers, so with his recent power surge, he seems like a great value at over 3:1 odds as he faces Henderson at American Family Field.
Pete Alonso 1+ Home Run (+382)
Alonso is another Pete the public is backing this Wednesday night. The Polar Bear has 34 homers in his first season with the Orioles. On Wednesday night, the wind is forecast to be blowing significantly out in Baltimore, where Alonso’s O’s host the Guardians, who will start Foster Griffin. Griffin has 15 wins in 28 starts between the Nationals and Guardians this season, but he has allowed 23 homers, including 16 to righties like Alonso. Alonso has hit .307 with eight homers and a 14.9% barrel rate in his 24 games since mid-August and has a pair of homers in the six games on his team’s current homestand. The environment is a good one for more long balls on Wednesday, and since he has good recent form, Alonso is a play the public likes at his elevated odds of almost 4:1.
Aaron Judge 1+ Home Run (+189)
Despite much shorter odds, the public is also backing Aaron Judge on Wednesday night even though it’s only his second game back after an extended layoff. Judge had 17 homers in his 59 games before May 31, but then he missed all of June, July, and August. He returned on Tuesday with no rehab stint and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Why would the public be backing him despite the potential rust? Part of the reason is that he is in a dream matchup against Tomoyuki Sugano, who has allowed 27 homers in 25 starts this season after allowing 33 homers in 30 starts last season. Sugano faced the Yankees four times last year when he was with the O’s, and Judge went 7-for-9 against him with three home runs. In such a great matchup, the public likes Judge’s odds to get back on the board with a home run this Wednesday night when the Yankees host the Rockies. Even if Judge doesn’t get a homer against Sugano, the bullpen for Colorado is also a great matchup for him as he works his way back into form before the postseason.
