The 2026 NFL season will kick off with a Super Bowl rematch, as A.J. Brown looks to serve as the WR1 that this Patriots offense was missing. After some apparent unhappiness with the Philadelphia Eagles, Brown was traded to the New England Patriots organization this offseason. Drake Maye will lean on him as the best receiving option he has been paired with in his young career, and the Patriots will hope he can be the difference in getting over the Super Bowl hump. But this journey starts tonight against a Seahawks team that got the better of them on the biggest stage 213 days ago.
Looking at the odds for tonight’s season opener, the defending-champion Seahawks enter as three-point favorites and are -166 to win outright on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Patriots hold +140 odds to produce the upset, with the game total set at 44.5 points. But this is a pivotal matchup for A.J. Brown as he looks to deliver on his new team and provide a strong start to his Patriots tenure. Below, I break down my top prop bet for the Wednesday night NFL opener.

A.J. Brown Over 63.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
A three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver and one-time Super Bowl champion, Brown has tallied 524 receptions for 8,029 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns across his seven-year career. He will be reunited with head coach Mike Vrabel, whom he started his career with in Tennessee, after spending the past four years with the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown tallied 1,000+ yards in all four seasons in Philadelphia, but is coming off his most mild statistical output with 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns across 15 games last season. He averaged 66.9 receiving yards per game and tallied over 63.5 receiving yards in eight of his 15 games played.
The Patriots are coming off a wildly successful season in which they went 14-3, made the Super Bowl, and proved to be well ahead of the expected timeline. Drake Maye led the second-best scoring offense in the league, and New England ranked fourth in passing yards per game. This was all while Stefon Diggs was the lone wide receiver to record more than 551 receiving yards on the season. Diggs is no longer on the roster, and Brown is an upgrade in talent at this stage of each of their careers. Frankly, there is a case to be made that Brown is the most talented wide receiver on the New England roster since the days of Randy Moss.
Looking at Diggs’ production last year, the four-time Pro Bowler averaged 59.6 receiving yards per game and tallied over 63.5 yards through the air in just six games. But in addition to the talent upgrade, Brown is seemingly as motivated as he has been in his career. He has not been shy to shower the Patriots organization with praise, and at least some of last year’s underwhelming outlook had to do with his lack of effort and frustration in the offense.
Brown will now transition to a more pass-oriented offensive attack where he will be looked at as the lead target. This is a strong Seattle Seahawks defense, but one that is stronger in its rushing defense after losing a few notable faces in the secondary. Coby Bryant joined the Chicago Bears in free agency, and Tariq Woolen will be suiting up for the Eagles this season after each were impact players last year. This is still expected to be one of the better units in football, but there are more question marks than seem to be fully acknowledged, and Brown is capable of capitalizing on one blown coverage to take the ball over 63.5 yards on a single play.
X’s and O’s to the side, there also is an expected level of personality volatility attached to Brown that often comes with a star wide receiver. His level of motivation is seemingly correlated to his happiness, so expect New England to make a clear effort to get him the ball at a frequent rate to make this transition smooth. With a clear need for him in the offense, the vulnerabilities of the Seahawks’ defense in mind, and Brown’s level of motivation clear, expect this prop line to be too low.
Back Brown to pull in over 63.5 receiving yards tonight and for this to be a point of emphasis for the Patriots throughout the matchup. The star wide receiver only gets to make his debut for his childhood favorite team once, and expect him to be eager to put an exclamation point on this. In addition to the standard receiving prop line, some alternate numbers have also caught my eye, such as Brown to record 80+ yards at +169 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
