I’m leaning slightly towards Tottenham in this game to open the season. The previous campaign was a disaster as they narrowly avoided relegation, but I’m expecting a much better season from Spurs in 2026/27. Roberto De Zerbi has now had a full summer to implement his plans and figure out where he wants this team to go.
James Maddison is back and the club has made some big signings this summer like Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke. The big loss was at the back as Cristian Romero moved to Atlético Madrid. There are still questions about this Tottenham team without a doubt, but the midfield has been upgraded massively and that should serve them well this season. I still expect them to make a few more attacking signings before the end of the transfer window.
Brentford had a great first season under Keith Andrews, finishing in the top half of the table. I think they will likely hover around a similar position this year, but it won’t be due to their result in the first match. Tottenham are unbeaten in five straight games against the Bees, winning four of those. The last time Spurs lost a game to Brentford was back in May of 2023.
I don’t feel confident enough in Tottenham to pick their moneyline here, but a draw no bet gives me some reassurance that at least I don’t think they will lose this one.
