What happened to James Wood? Live injury updates for Nationals vs. Phillies on 8/3/26

UPDATE: Wood has a side injury, and will undergo further imaging, according to manager Blake Butera.

Bad news for the Nationals. Washington, barely clinging to their playoff hopes, is playing a crucial series against the Philadelphia Phillies. But they might be without James Wood, who left tonight’s game with an apparent injury.

Before leaving, Wood was 1-for-4 at the plate. Washington’s young star leads the major leagues in walks and runs scored this year, along with 30 home runs, 17 stolen bases, and a .930 OPS. Any sort of absence from Wood would be devastating to Washington’s slim playoff hopes.
