Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins prediction, pick for MLB on Friday 7/31/26

Minnesota opens this series at 55-55 after Kody Clemens authored Thursday’s most astonishing finish. His 407-foot grand slam erased a three-run deficit with two outs and two strikes in the ninth. The Twins had managed one hit through eight innings and entered the rally facing another damaging home loss. They have won six of 10 despite hitting .215 with a 4.25 staff ERA during that span. Minnesota has averaged only 3.8 runs across its past nine games, even with outbursts of 10 and 11 runs. Seattle returns home at 53-57 after losing two of three at Dodger Stadium. The Mariners are 3-7 across their last 10 with a .249 average, 5.08 ERA, and negative 10-run differential. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Minnesota Twins.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mariners vs. Twins prediction, preview

Bryce Miller owns a 4-5 record, 2.75 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 71:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 68.2 innings. His season-long 29.5% strikeout rate and 4.1% walk rate remain among baseball’s widest differentials. Miller’s recent line deserves scrutiny after his excellent opening two months. He is 1-5 with a 4.01 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and seven homers allowed across his last six starts. Texas tagged him for five runs, six hits, and two homers across 5.1 innings Friday. Miller failed to record a strikeout after generating 71 during his first 11 appearances. His 1.82 xERA, .254 xwOBA, 87.1 mph contact, and 30.9% hard-hit rate still support substantial positive regression.

Miller now throws his four-seamer 44% with renewed velocity near 97 mph. His splitter receives 23% usage, while sliders, cutters, sweepers, sinkers, and curves complete an unusually deep arsenal. Opponents have barreled only 6.7% of their contact against him. Zebby Matthews owns a 4-8 record, 5.21 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 59:24 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 76 innings. He held The Athletics to two runs and three hits across six innings Friday. That rebound included three walks and only one strikeout. Chicago had scored 10 runs, eight earned, against Matthews across three innings during his previous start. Opponents own a .334 xwOBA, 89.9 mph average exit velocity, and elevated 12% barrel rate against him.

Seattle has enough healthy offense to exploit those contact indicators. Randy Arozarena owns a .283/.376/.451 line, 13 homers, 48 RBI, 67 runs, 20 steals, and a 142 wRC+. He is hitting .300/.323/.533 across seven games with nine hits, two homers, four runs, and one stolen base. Dominic Canzone has become Seattle’s most dependable power source. He owns a .261/.337/.526 line, 18 homers, 49 RBI, a .265 ISO, and a 145 wRC+. Canzone is hitting .296/.367/.741 across seven games with three homers and nine RBI. Julio Rodríguez adds 16 homers, 46 RBI, 13 steals, and a 109 wRC+. His .172/.194/.276 last-seven line remains the biggest concern inside Seattle’s projected top four.

Cole Young supplies valuable depth with a .261/.320/.409 line, 13 homers, and a 111 wRC+. Cal Raleigh has endured a brutal .163/.268/.304 season after his historic 60-homer campaign. His recent six-game surge produced a .333 average, one homer, and seven RBI. Minnesota lost its most explosive hitter when Byron Buxton returned to the injured list with another right hip impingement. Buxton had produced 25 homers, 45 RBI, and 57 runs across 82 games. Clemens now owns a .244/.300/.493 line with 19 homers, 53 RBI, seven steals, and a 116 wRC+. He has eight homers and 23 RBI across 30 games. His average exit velocity reached 94.9 mph during the past week.

Twins vs. Mariners pick, best bet

Minnesota still has credible support behind Clemens. Ryan Jeffers owns a .294/.399/.528 line, nine homers, and a team-best 160 wRC+ across 193 plate appearances. Brooks Lee has collected 94 hits, 15 homers, and 56 RBI. Josh Bell carries a .242 average, 13 homers, and 63 RBI after producing eight homers across one 24-game surge. Luke Keaschall has cooled to .190/.357/.190 across seven games, although four walks have preserved his lineup value. Seattle’s decisive advantage arrives once the starters leave. Its bullpen ranks fourth with a 3.50 ERA, while Minnesota ranks 26th at 4.89. Gabe Speier owns a 1.88 ERA, José Ferrer sits at 2.66, and Eduard Bazardo carries a 2.87 mark. Minnesota has lost Cole Sands and still gives important innings to several relievers carrying ERAs above 5.00.

T-Mobile Park suppresses cheap power, and Miller’s elite contact profile should limit Minnesota without Buxton. Seattle’s lineup owns the better blend of current power, on-base production, and lineup depth. Matthews’ 12% barrel rate creates separation potential for Canzone, Arozarena, Rodríguez, Raleigh, and Josh Naylor. Minnesota’s bullpen makes any early Seattle advantage increasingly valuable after the sixth inning. The Mariners’ -168 moneyline demands too much exposure from a 53-57 team. Moving to -1.5 runs creates a plus-money path while attacking the largest pitching and bullpen gaps. Miller’s recent downturn carries risk, but his expected metrics still tower over Matthews’ underlying profile.

Best bet: Mariners -1.5 runs (+128), playable through +115

Projected score: Mariners 5, Twins 2

Best bet: Mariners -1.5 (+130) vs. Twins
