Junior Caminero 1+ Home Run (+238)
After a two-season playoff drought, the Tampa Bay Rays have vaulted themselves back into contention this year, and Caminero has been the main reason why. The 23-year-old has been a much more disciplined and well-rounded batter without sacrificing any of his power, slashing a career-best .285/.373/.550 and ranking third in the AL in slugging percentage. While Caminero hasn’t yet hit a homer since Tampa Bay’s second game after the All-Star break, he has a solid matchup against MacKenzie Gore, who’s recorded just a 17th-percentile hard-hit percentage and a 31st-percentile barrel rate this season. Caminero has the fastest bat speed in the league, which has translated into an 86th-percentile barrel rate and and 92nd-percentile hard-hit percentage. He’s posted a .760 slugging percentage and smacked two homers in 34 plate appearances against the left-handed four-seamers Gore loves to throw.
Yordan Alvarez 1+ Home Run (+192)
Alvarez, who’s on pace to become the first Triple Crown winner since Miguel Cabrera in 2012, hit one of the most majestic home runs of the season last night, throttling a Reid Detmers four-seamer 427 feet into the right field bleachers. The Cuban basically has no weaknesses, ranking in the top decile in all but four Statcast categories and leading the league in xwOBA, xBA, and xSLG. He has an extremely friendly matchup against Grayson Rodriguez, who’s been awful this season, ranking in the first percentile in average exit velocity and just the 12th percentile in barrel rate. Rodriguez has conceded seven homers in his nine starts, pitching to an 8.54 ERA, and though he’s actually been quite good against Alvarez in his career, it’s a small sample size. Rodriguez almost solely throws four-seam fastballs, and Alvarez has a .780 xSLG against righty four-seamers.
Hunter Goodman 1+ Home Run (+298)
Goodman has been the rare bright spot in another miserable season for the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have limped to the worst record in the National League for the fourth consecutive season, but Goodman has steadily improved. Through 99 games, he’s already matched his career-high in homers (31) that he set last season in 144 games, and his slugging percentage is 30 points higher. Goodman has already had four homers in nine games since the All-Star break, tied for the sixth-most in baseball across that span. He should have an excellent matchup against Griffin Canning, who will work in bulk relief, as Canning ranks in the bottom octile in hard-hit rate, barrel rate, and average exit velocity while giving up 12 homers in 15 appearances (11 starts). Canning most frequently throws sliders to fellow righties, and Goodman has a .694 slugging percentage and seven homers against the pitch already.
