Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez exited Monday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks early due to injury.
Valdez was hit in the left hand/wrist area by a pitch during the bottom of the fourth inning. He clutched at his hand and was checked out by a trainer before leaving the game shortly after.
Valdez went 0-for-1 with on Monday evening before he left vs. the Diamondbacks.
The 22-year-old has been on fire at the plate thus far in his breakout rookie campaign. Across 143 plate appearances, he’s slashing .293/.385/.707 with an astounding 1.092 OPS, bashing 14 home runs with 36 hits, 26 runs, and 36 RBI.
The Pirates are 54-52 on the year, third in the NL Central prior to the conclusion of tonight’s game.
