Chicago White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery exited Monday night’s game against the Texas Rangers due to injury.
Montgomery fouled a ball off his shin in the seventh inning and was down in considerable pain. The trainers came out to check on him, and he was able to finish the at-bat before being removed for a defensive substitution. It’s at least a positive sign for the AL Central-leading White Sox that Montgomery was able to finish the at-bat.
Montgomery, 24, has been a critical part of Chicago’s turnaround this season. The shortstop has bashed 24 home runs this year while being an 84th percentile defender at short, according to Baseball Savant. Before leaving the game, Montgomery was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.
