Storm vs. Sky Preview
Two of the worst teams in the WNBA face off to start Wednesday’s three-game slate. It’s not an important game for the playoff race, but it does make for a competitive atmosphere considering both teams are struggling equally. One can hope this game is close rather than a blowout because at least then it’ll be enjoyable to watch.
The Sky are 7-16, disappointing in the season following the Angel Reese trade. It doesn’t help that Rickea Jackson has been hurt, but Reese thriving in Atlanta has also not been beneficial to Chicago. To make matters worse, Skylar Diggins is out without a timetable due to a knee injury. That thins this roster even further as the team looks to show some life. Chicago’s lost four of its last five with its only win coming against the Mercury, an eight-win team.
The Storm are also losers of four of their last five, but their one win came against playoff hopeful Los Angeles. Prior to this stretch, Seattle defeated the Liberty and Dream, both playoff squads, in a row. That’s about it when it comes to success this season for the Storm. They’re 6-19, which is the worst record in the league. They score 80 points per game, which ranks 14th out of 15 teams. At least the defense allows the sixth fewest points per game. It hasn’t led to many wins, but it’s a positive in what’s otherwise been a miserable year.
Storm vs. Sky Pick, Best Bet
With all the injuries in Chicago, the Storm should walk away with a win in this matchup. It’s a road game for the Storm, but their recent victories over the Sparks, Liberty, and Dream are more encouraging than anything the Sky have done since mid-May.
